The NRL Guy gets frustrated

Let's me start by apologizing for the sloppy writing The NRL Guy is no word Smith.Thank-you NRL, you have just given every club the information they need to rort the salary cap. You have proven to all the fans out there just how uneven tthe competition is.Even if the Cowboys players were not given a cheap deal. (I ask anyone who had bought a house or land that they haven't negotiated the price. Is there not a conflict here.) I ask you do the Gold Coast have a property man who can give them advise on buying properties? Advise from a million property does not come free. (If the sharks were to pay a property consultant for there players would these be counted against the salary cap?Let's get to the NRL response to the report in SMH it took the NRL only a few hours to give the Cowboys the all clear. Really. Even if they had just given the all clear, it only took you a few hours to double what was reported was the same as you had been through. I'm sorry I don't not believe that.Let's get to Eels when the SMH reported on its dealings, the NRL took a few hours to release a statement they would investigate further. Fair enough. But let me remind you that a few months earlier had done an audit of the club. So either they missed these payments when they did the audit (worrying sign) or they had found these payments and cleared them, but were not given the same courtesy the Cowboys received. (not very consistent)I believe every NRL club is dodging the salary cap in some way, because of the gross incompetence of the NRL to police it. I ask you have they ever found a club cheating the salary cap were the information was not handed them on platter? (Interestingly that 3 NRL owned clubs are dead last. Are these the only clubs not cheating the cap)My frustrations with the NRL competition do not start and end with these gripes but this is what has pushed me other edge.

  • NRL guy.

I dont believe the NRL is necessarily incompetent. More to the point, you have the organisation who owns and runs a profitable competition, auditing and making judgments that if bad, could affect their own future earnings.

This same organisation, own and or runs some of the teams in this competition.

So, will everyone be treated the same? of course not.

Do they need a successful team like the Cowboys to be found guilty? of course not

What about punch drunk Parra? Well everyone expects it, even some fans, so why not keep stoking the fire.

The issue is that this finding is a narrow minded short term solutions and now opens Pandoras box for team accounts to work their black magic. Tell me, how is getting a $200k saving on a house any different to being handed $200k?

As far as Im concerned, there might as well not be a salary cap and we just go back to the old days where wealth teams excelled and poor teams died. At least Parra was successful under those conditions.

    • Agree with giving up on the salary cap. Its just not working.

  • The NRL can't check personal bank accounts of players nor can they check the accounts or books of a business. So essentially on the face it can appear that the company sold the property at market value but that company can refund any figure between 25k to 200k back to the player directly to their account and the NRL don't have the authority to rule or check on that transaction as its not between the club and the player. Do that across 3 to 5 property purchases and it's a huge bonus for these players. That's how these clubs that have astute businessman as directors rort the cap legally and the NRL is powerless to stop it because technically its not against the rules they impose. Still doesn't make it right
    • Thats all correct, but its what they do when they do find it happening eg Cowboys. I think we all agree that its an advantage to the club and the player and therefore no different to the club paying extra $ to a player to play at the club. Therefore no different to exceeding the cap. Its not about hiding this now, its about everyone getting onboard the loophole and using it to their advantage. Can a player have too many properties? Why have a cap then?

  • I have no problem with what is happening at the cowboys as long as it's ok for all clubs to do it.

It seems some clubs get policed more than others at present, wether that is true or not i don't know but that's how it looks from the outside looking in.

  • Can't help but feel that certain clubs get favouritism. Not sure if it's media or NRL.
    • Media definitely. Starting to wonder about The NRL.

  • How is it that a club can do this kind of business & what? No other NRL side knew of this scam? All I'll say is being back Gallop, no doubt the game was in better shape when he was part of the NRL.
  • Interestingly that 3 NRL owned clubs are dead last. Are these the only clubs not cheating the cap?

The answer: Yes. That's exactly what is happening. You can't win the NRL competition unless you cheat the cap. It really is that simple.

    • Is poor performance due to nrl ownership (lack of cap cheating) or is nrl ownership due to poor performance?
