When Boeing build aircraft, they use an elite level of engineering rarely seen elsewhere. They build aircraft so well that they will serve their purpose for decades before being replaced.
The Boeing B-52 Stratofortress has been in service since the fifties, and some examples will be more than 70 years old by the time they are finally retired.
Qantas are currently taking delivery of 787 Dream Liners which will reliably serve the airline for up to 30 years.
Jarryd Hayne is alot like an aircraft - in footy terms he is a magnificent product of (genetic) engineering - big, strong, fast and possesses, quite literally, all the skills. He even has footy smarts.
But he's not a machine - he's only human - and he's starting to show a bit of wear and tear. He's not as fast as the fastest any more, and he's starting to get hurt a bit.
In a nut shell - he's getting old.
But is he finished yet?....... Is it time for The Eels to put him out to retirement?
The answer must surely be an emphatic no.
If you look closely, it would appear that Hayne is very much a positive influence - both on and off the field. His most recent injury came about as he was putting Mau down a short blind to score. On his return last night he scored a couple himself. He is aparantly the instigator of the infamous bloody training session that precluded two rare wins.
It would appear the old dog still has it.
He may not have won a GF but the bloke is a winner. And our team desperately needs winners.
Forget about his stint at The Goldie. Pretend San Fran never happened. Tack his form this year onto what he did in his last year with The Eels (2015?) and what you get is an elite level once in a generation footballer who is not that far past his absolute prime.
Fingers crossed he can stay fit.
The Eels medical staff need to do everything possible to keep him healthy. Arthur needs to ensure that his best player (probably the best player he will ever coach) gets the ball in his hands as much as possible. I reckon he needs to get him into either the halves or fullback.
Hayne can offer plenty of highlights for the remainder of the year and give us all plenty of hope for finishing on a somewhat positive note.
I personally hope he's at the club for a few years yet.
It's a sobering thought, but had Hayne been with us last year there is a very real possibility we would have beaten Melbourne in that semi.

Realistically he needs to play the rest of the season without injury, we can't possibly keep him on the books if he can't play at least half a season.
How much would you pay him on what you have seen so far this season?.
If he stays fit and plays to his potential I reckon he would be looking at a pay increase to around the 750k mark - the club should be looking at TPA's.
I wouldn't be making a concrete decision 'till at least round 20 though..
To be getting that kind of money he would have to be killing it at centre or fullback, I really don't think he is a centre and to be killing it at fullback he would have to get a lot fitter than he has ever been considering his age.
Agree Tad. We are very much a rudderless team atm. That's one of our biggest problems. Hayne provides presence, leadership and confidence. Guth benifitted hugely from him being on the park last night I reckon..
And so we should - we really need him.
Agree 100%. People play the man and not the ball too much when contemplating Hayne. He is a freak talent who will go down as the best player to ever play for Parramatta. Doesn't mean you have to like him, just respect him as a player and be happy we have him.
Summed it up perfectly JBG.
He's got a stack of swagger but, unlike others, he can back it up.
We need him.
Haynes isn’t a 750k player .
To many fans rely on facebook comments or news articles on players which are usually false and made up from half rumours with no base.
The problem is it is easy to remember highlight moments and players who make them yet the highlight moment may he their only good play instead players who are solid for full game doing little things well to set up teammates for their highlight play.
