Stop Blaming The Players- Fong was Right Again

How can our halves dominate a game when our forwards are being steam rolled every game?

Our forwards look tiny compared to any other pack in the comp, we don't need to have the best forwards in the comp to win games, but having the smallest, least effective pack in the comp has sealed our fate this season.

So what was Arthur and Co doing when the club had salary cap money and available forwards on the market? The mind boggles, how is it possible that just about every member on this site was aware that we needed to sign quality forwards, while the people in charge of recruiting were too busy negotiating with a fullback. Every club needs 3 fullbacks right?

Forwards win big games, our halves have no chance while our forwards are being squashed and battered by bigger, more mobile forwards. Our forwards don't fatigue our opposition pack, we don't have a forward who can brutalise an opposition halve or outside back. Our halves work with less time, less space while recovering from the likes of Kikau terrorising Moses all game, who was terrorising Maloney? Our team is constantly under pressure and playing fatigued, leading to mistakes, giving away penalties and missing tackles, that's what happens when big, mobile forward packs are constantly sapping energy and creating space for their halves.

I don't blame our forwards either, they bust their asses, as pack, they're just not good enough and that's not their fault, they weren't responsible for assembling our pack.

I've heard people say we have the same team that made the top 4, well we don't, our weaknesses last year were well disguised by the brilliance of Semi and Gutherson, they created space with line breaks and freakish plays, forcing the defense to back peddle. They were responsible for 80% of our wins.

I've supported Arthur until now, he failed to see the impact Semi's absence and Gutherson's injury would have on the team, replacing Semi was never the answer, you can't replace a player like Semi, the answer was to solve obvious weakness in our forward pack, most members here could see it, but Arthur couldn't. And here we are again, the laughing stock of the NRL, the Robertson brothers have already written a song about us, and we'll hear it all season long.

  • Zzzzzzzzzz.....
    • Oh come on Horo, is that the best you've got? Zzzzzzzz....? Getting a bit old don't you think? How about a decent, creative insult for a change, you useless, boring, one dimensional sack of sh*t.

      • lol!

      • LOL Jospeh and great blog by the way.

        Another quality contribution from Horo.

  • Too right about our pack - it's going to take years to sign the right people to fill these positions. If we could have at least jagged one or two younger gun forwards earlier, it may not have been this dire.

BA went old - Matagi Vave Williams Frank Gower Beu Watmough.

Zero jnrs given a shot off the bench ...

The older heads bought us a few games yea,  but to what expense?  .  BA is the Wayne Bennett of Newcastle.

    Gone....finished....

If people think we're going to be getting these miracle signings. .forget about it. ..

    • U re pretty upset chief, I am too big time, just Hoping we can turn the tide and we realise this now and plan for next year !! I was one on this site mentioning that we cannot win a comp with our current front rowers and my worst feet’s have been realised...
      • I don't get emotional over footy mate. Im just calling what i see.  At the moment a loss means nothing to myself.

    • True Chief, but this only applies to Parramatta, other clubs seem to fill weaknesses over an off season. Look at the Tigers, they lost woods but signed Matalino, Packer and Rocco. Their pack craps on ours.

  • You might be right but I could just as easily imagine an alternative reality whereby we had let go for example Mau, Terepo and Scott and we are nil from 5 and people are on here saying we should have kept the side that got us to the top 4. Hindsight allows for easy judgement.

    • Mick this isn't about the one game yesterday, it's about the overall question of our pack matching the competitors.

      We can't,
