So I missed a lot...

When I figured out that some travel I had to undertake for work was going to mean I was going to miss the first two semi's plus the constitutional reform EGM, I was pretty damn annoyed. Like you all, I've waiting along time for finals - so I was pretty crushed when I realised I was going to miss the start of the final series. I rationalised it by telling myself that if the Eels went out in straight sets, I was probably better off not having lived through it anyway (and surely the constitutional reforms would sail though. surely).

I just arrived in Jaipur India right on game-time for the first semi. Checked the score on my phone arrival, saw we were a try down after a few minutes - resigned myself to it being a painful match, but told the people I was with, I was going to miss lunch as I had a game to listen to. Streamed the Triple M feed which worked pretty well in the first half, then stupidly took it off at half-time. By the time I managed to reconnect we'd given up those two second-half tries. Rest of that day bummed out.

Second final I watched from the Aussie pub in Manilla. To my annoyance, it was a very much an AFL-biased crowd, so they had AFL going on the big screen with sound, while the NRL was restricted to a dodgy-low quality connection in the corner. Still, I was grateful for just being able to watch anything, to be honest. The stream they had playing died from about the 65th minute to the 75th minute, so missed that period when hoping for the late comeback. Proceeded to concentrate on drowning my sorrows.

Barring those two exceptions, I pretty deliberately disconnected myself for 2 weeks so I had no idea about the result of the constitutional reform vote. To be honest, I don't know how to feel about that. I'm filthy I couldn't be there, as it doesn't sound like there were many yes voices. However, as others have stated, it at least goes to truly highlight the reasons as to why these reforms need to go through. It shows once again that when a club as large and powerful as ours is run based on "friends and family" voting, that you will never end up with an outcome that is right for the club. It is clear that those associated with the club in the past, still have ambitions, and that the ex-director clause was right to be included. Clearly, everyone of us was far too complacent on getting this through - it really needed an almost election-level mentality taken to it. Thank you to all those on here that did bother to turn up and represent the feelings of most everyone that doesn't have a vested interest.

Bummed I won't get to see us live in a final, but I really am heartened towards next year. This year has been such a busy one for me professionally, that I've been far less-engaged than I usually am with the team, and I miss exercising my fanaticism.

  • What are you doing in Manila Phil?

Actually - don't answer that. What happens in Manila stays in Manila :)

    • 3321003157?profile=RESIZE_1024x1024About an hour into being in Manilla, bumped into this guy. I think that constitutes claiming Manilla as eels territory.

  • Good to have you back, how did the video making venture in Manilla go?

Youve gone to the right place for cheap labour.

  • Who are you again?

  • Well.... At least ur back in time for the Same Sex Marriage voting

  • Alex Chan?

  • Phil, missing the EGM was a benefit for you, sadly I was one of the few supporters of the reforms that bothered to turn up and to say I was extremely annoyed by the whole affair would be an understatement. The EGM and particularly the reforms were very poorly promoted, actually they were not promoted at all. Not one person in favour of the reforms got up and spoke, I had an uneasy feeling leading up to the EGM that it was not being treated seriously by Max and it was only a token gesture so they can say they tried to get it passed by the members.

Anyway I have moved on from my disappointment with the hope that it was all part of a strategy to get to where the club needs to be.

    • I'd of liked the chance to gotten up and said my piece. Clearly it sounds like most of the people weren't there to listen or make up their minds, but I think I would have felt better for being able to vent.

    • "Hits from the Fong"
  • LOL nice one Phil . . . . I'm assuming he was just walking down the street with his grey T shirt and lanyard on and he saw you in your Parra jersey and went straight up to say g'day. What's that you're holding in your left hand there?   ;)
