Site warning

1Eyed Eel is 15 years old this year. As it goes, the site has seen the good times, and the bad times. It's fair to say that there has been more bad than good, but I still reckon that only makes the good times better.

Because that's who I am. I am a generally optimistic person. I like to see the best in people. I like to give people the benefit of the doubt. It's just the way I'm wired.

Others not so much. A lot of people come to this site to vent. They care deeply about their football team, and when we're not going well, it hurts. And they're missus, kid or dog doesn't really get why they they get so riled up over a stupid football game, but on 1Eyed Eel they find people who can understand their pain.

So we get all types here on 1Eyed, and that's really what sustains the site. The fact that we have different point of views, differences of opinions and just differences in general, is what (usually) makes it fun to be a part of, and to watch.

There is a lot to talk to about, with respects to the club right now, because things aren't going well. There are really important occasions ahead, such as pushing through the remaining Leagues Club reforms, potentially blooding young players, and big recruitment decisions, so - unlike the off-season - there really isn't an excuse for boredom and subsequently letting differences of opinions get personal. I still run this site, as a football site, and the idea is that people come here to read about and discuss Parramatta.

Right now, too many of you are getting personal in your discussions. I need it to stop.

So this blog is to remind you of the code-of-conduct. I'll leave the key points at the bottom. But in essence, have respect for each others as Eels fans. I'm kind of sick to the death of the whole unicorn vs realist dichotomy. Unicorns always see the good because the love the club and want it to be successful. Realists want to call out the bad because they love the club and want it to be successful.

If you can't do that, I'll be more aggressively deleting content, or suspending those involves till things simmer down. You won't be notified, and I'll let you back on, when I get around it. If you find yourself suspended, take the time to do some yoga, relax and reflect. Go and watch a sunrise.

This site provides you with a place to talk about our shared passion, with relative freedom, don't abuse it.

- Phil

P.S. Do not fill the comments with "it was him", "it wasn't me". I have three children, I get enough of that time at home, and really don't care. I'll leave comments open for the time being, but reserve the right to close them and move on if this bogs the site down.

1. Do not abuse, threaten or harass others, regardless of whether they agree or disagree with you. Do not post blogs, comments or pictures about any individuals that in any way might be construed as harassment or bullying.

6. No thoughtless trolling. If you're going to come onto this site and start criticising our club, players, site or members ensure it is thoughtful and reasonable debate/discussion. Blogs considered to be inflammatory-in-intent will be deleted or closed.

10. Do not personally identify members of the site who wish to remain anonymous. If users choose not to use the site under their real-name, assume that as to be their desire to remain anonymous and respect that wish. Do not call people by their real names, refer to jobs, addresses or any other personal information.

  • Thanks Phil, sometimes I think it's more of a school playground instead of a Footy Forum.

PS - I'm a little worried about the recruiting coming up, Brad Arthur's history ain't great.

Could be more years of misery to come :(

    • Whenever my children start to get me down for their childish behaviour, that's when I pop into 1Eyed, just to see how mature they actually are.

PS. Peter Sharp is actually our recruitment manager btw.

  • It wasnt me.

    • said the man with the smoking pistol. :P

  • Wait... so it's not the orf season??

    • Phil do you still love the Fong ?

      • Still? You seem to have forgotten some of the behavioural management issues we discussed, of late...

  • The Parramatta Eels visited Westmead Children's Hospital in Sydney today. “It’s heartbreaking to see their sad little faces with no hope,” said Jamal, aged six.
