Some of you have a particular fondness for posting GIFS/images into the comment stream, which I don't generally mind. However, some of you have been going well overboard on this of late. It particularly annoys me when someone posts a serious footy blog and it gets hi-jacked in a GIF/image war.
Please be aware that a) The majority of people read this site on their phone and so lots of gifs and image in the comment stream can chew up people's mobile data allowances, so it's poor etiquette on that front alone.
Secondly, posting a string of GIFs makes the thread difficult to navigate. Again, particularly annoying on mobile.
And thirdly, a lot of the GIFs being posted are questionable in taste and a) can trigger the nasty Google bots because they run counter to Adsense terms of use, and b) are going to turn some people off the site.
So without making too big a deal of it or having to send out individual messages to people, I'm asking y'aa to please be respectful of other people's reading experience, and don't overdo it. And secondly, please keep images which tread the line of offensive content, out of the comment streams.
A clever GIF at the right time, is funny. A string of same-ish GIFs running completely down a page is just a pain.
Thanks,
Phil
