before i start i'm a fan off reni matuia as i know what he's capable of, however i havnt been a fan of his performance from rd2 onwards.
Okay so i watched parras game twice over the weekend and both times reni IMO had a solid game. Yet i see constant blogs/comments bagging out his defense and performance against the dragons. So i thought i'd have a look at his stats and saw that he averaged over 10m per run, and missed just the 1 tackle/penalty. which i would hardly say is terrible defense as many people have said over the week.
Anyways the point of the blog is are we as fans judging players by the current performance or has it come to the time where people are going by past performances/ dislikes.

that's spot on miatch, for fans, a decent performance is considered crap due to high expectations
Reni is not a typical backrower - doesn't like defence thus low tackle counts. He can tackle but just avoids it.
Play him as a running 6, fringe defender.
Agree with this. Against the Titans he played 80 minutes and only made 11 tackles. WHAT?! If he wanted to get involved, he'd be averaging 10 tackles a game more than he does.
nah i wouldn't play him as five-eight, but def would get him more involved in the back line, against the warriors he through the last pass before a try 2 or 3 times if my memorys right so he's pass is there, however kicking im not too sure about...
That head on tackle that Reni and Roberts missed on Simmons against Penrith is burnt into my mind. He's going to need to do something special to change my view on him.
I'll say a little bit to defend Maitua, in that he's a hole runner style of back-rower and we don't have anyone who is really capable of putting him through holes. You saw how he should be used when Kelly put him through that gap and he would have scored but for the forward pass. I've said before, while Morgan is out I'd be playing him at centre.
