  • Im pretty sure i remember Jennings making an 80 metre linebreak shortly before A'uva's try

    • Nope, no line-breaks for Jennings.
      I've double checked the vision.

You must be referring to the error from David Nofoaluma that saw Jennings run 80m before he was chased down. Line-breaks are not given on intercepts or when a defending player drops the ball to which an attacking player then scoops it up because there is no line that is broken per se.

The line is already technically broken as a result of the set-up of an attacking raid. It's an interesting one but definitely no line-breaks for Jennings in this one.

    • Also what about taka? He broke the line before kicking it for kristomes second try?
      Must be a technicality thing
  • Only one of our forwards ran for more than 100m. Brown was the only one who looked likely also.
Does this suggest that we are being dominated by the opposing packs?
I was at the game and didn't have the best view but from where I was sitting it looked like they were running harder than us and making more metres per carry.
    • The metres advantage in the Tigers favour was that they physically dominated and manhandled us for 30 minutes of that second half and it's why their numbers are so much higher.
Obviously, we bucked the trend in the second.

Were we or are we getting dominated in the forwards? Yes, if you look at our first half, no, if you look at the second. The overall metres perhaps can be higher but the general average metres per run from most of our forwards, particularly the props is quite encouraging and shows that they can get over the advantage line often.

    • Do you think this is a problem area for us Ricky?
I recall reading posts on 1EyedEel from people who were suggesting that our smaller and more mobile forwards would be an issue this year compared to the bigger and more intimidating packs.
Perhaps the trick is to get the balance right with only 8 interchanges.
    • Yeah. I'm just finishing watching the game on tv now. We look a whole lot better on tv than we did at the ground (I was sitting in the corner, near where Idris pulled up injured in the last couple of minutes so obviously didn't have the best view of yardage gained per hitup).
Our go forward from about the 50th minute was actually pretty good. Timmy was the only one who didn't seem to be making good metres per carry. Vave looked really good and Brown seems to be a younger version of Beau Scott and then some.
I'm particularly impressed with Auva'a. He may well be the outside back we've been after. His hit ups on the early tackles were really impressive. Add to that a combination with Hoffman that seems promising.
Life is much better after a win and we see things through much more positive eyes. We're definitely in need of a game-controlling half. Perhaps Moses will be that. We also need some spark from hooker off the bench. Other than that, we're not looking too bad. If we can beat the Panthers on Saturday we'll be 4-4. That's a solid place to be 8 weeks in.
  • Again, no line-break for Taka.

Whilst the line was technically broken to complete the first stage of the line-break, he didn't run all the way to the fullback, instead, opting to kick.

Had he taken the line on in that play and ran at Tedesco, it would have constituted as a line-break for Taka. But because he stopped in the line to then kick the ball for Auva'a to score, it doesn't constitute as a line-break.

    Hope that makes sense.

  • The interchange reduction has certainly adjusted the gameplan of all coaches to become perhaps a touch more strategic and calculated, instead of making an interchange for the sake of it like you could with 10.

We showed against two packs with decent size in Rds 1/2 v Manly & the Dragons that the intimidation factor won't work and that we can physically manhandle bigger forward packs.

As to whether it's a problem, it really depends on our overall approach to the game. As the second half against the Tigers showed, if we get the roll on we need from our forwards and get over the advantage line repeatedly, then it leads to our attack flourishing.

  • You have radradra and semi scoring tries but not jennngs

I see it either being a close game with Parra winning or us winning by over 12 points."
