Just heard that the Australian government is outsourcing jobs within dept of of immigration and border control.  The majority of companies who do this kind of work are multi nationals meaning that a vital part of Australian security in years to come could be compromised.  There isn't much media coverage as the media is owned by and sells advertising to large multi nationals.  So it would be stupid to let the public know of these type of deals which will jeopardise Australian information and security by the same companies.

Of course the public service is not perfect however they are lot more accountable then private companies and their are rules stopping foreign nationals obtaining jobs in public service with access to personal or sensitive information.

Not to mention although maybe cheaper in short term you can guarantee in years to come the private company ups the cost to the govt meaning there is not any $$ savings for the budget.  It would also mean thousands more australians moving from secure full time work to a casual or agency based temporary contracts with no job security making it harder to obtain homeloans and credit, which will further widen the gap between the rich and poor.

Here is the story.

Today the Turnbull Government has announced that Datacom will be contracted to run the Department of Immigration and Border Protection (DIBP) call centre.

Minister Dutton wants to privatise our borders by handing over 250 Immigration officer jobs to a private, for profit multinational  Datacom.

Datacom has a very low reported profit margin, there are serious questions to be answered by Datacom and other multinationals regarding them paying their fair share of tax.

Today’s announcement is only the beginning – we expect the Turnbull Government to announce what company they want to award DIBP’s visa processing work to in February. These privatisations threaten the jobs of up to 3,000 hardworking staff who are heading into 2018 facing an uncertain future.

Tell Minister Dutton that these jobs need to stay in public hands. Sign the petition.

There is too much at stake to privatise DIBP jobs.

DIBP call centre and visa processing staff have access to extremely sensitive and secure information. They are highly trained, experienced staff, committed to working in the national interest.

Handing this work over to a company that is not accountable to the public and is driven by profit is irresponsible and short sighted. It threatens the security of our nation and the quality of our public services.

Minister Dutton has snuck in today’s announcement in early January hoping it will go unnoticed. Send Dutton a message that you oppose the privatisation of DIBP jobs.

Last month we delivered 1000 Christmas cards from the community to Minister Dutton asking him not to be a Grinch and to stop the privatisation of DIBP jobs. We need to keep up the pressure, with the announcement of what companies will be awarded visa processing work due in February.

We know that when we work together with the support of the community and allies we can win. Together, we have saved Medicare, the Australian Renewable Energy Agency, Australian Hearing and the Australian Securities and Investments Commission registry.

This year we will be ramping up our campaigns to stop the privatisation of DIBP and Centrelink. Stay tuned for how you can be a part of the campaign.

Peter Dutton and Turnbull Government need to hear loud and clear that the Australian community won’t stand for these privatisations.

  • It's just a call centre. They do exactly what they are contracted to do. To say they are outsourcing border control is extremely misleading.
    • Read whole story. They want to privatise visa processing as well. The call centres are how the multi nationals are getting their foot in the door. I don't want private companies making profits off Australian government work. Visa processing is very sensitive issue at the moment and who ever wins the contract you can bet it not a Aussie owned company with Australia's best interest in mind.
  • Turnbull is intent on selling this nation down the drain to foreign ownership. I mean what does he really care as he’s bank balance and offshore estates would be worth more than he’ll ever need in this lifetime. This Govt is an absolute disgrace as are the majority of politicians these days who are only out for themselves and their pockets.

  • The Navy should be doing this instead of swanning around on their boats pushing broomsticks into each others anus's to kill time which they actually do.

I live above a naval base, the sailors spend most of their time snorting coke, drinking chinos and hammering hookers, its a dead set holiday camp, most look fat and lazy.

Its about time they did something instead of playing war games once a year, whale watching and harpooning each others ass's on the taxpayer dollar.

  • Houston, we have a problem

Turned  the news off after watching the hateful Plibasek and the moronic Bowen making some sort of statement. Must admit Turnbull is a Chardonnay socialist , but if we turn to these plods, it will be the trade unions running the country and chaos, worse than what we currently have , the country will go backwards

Its got  to the stage where it's difficult to watch any news broadcast, how long till the footy starts ?

    • X 2 Deadset

    • An Old Testament prophet said "In the last days your princes are children and you are led by women" speaking of the west, and that's us folks.

Maybe he was prophesying about a Shorten led government containing the childlike Bowen and vaguely feminine Plibasekl?

    • Deadset, what is wrong with the working class having input into politics? The most prosperous time for workers in this country was post WW2, funny how that period coincides with the strongest period of trade unionism activity.

I find it hard to understand how an organisation that fought for and one an 8 hour day, 38 hour week, paid annual leave, overtime, penalty rates, sick leave, superannuation, safety in the workplace and basic workers rights is such a horrible organisation that has no place in Australian politics.

I think it’s fair to say you have and will continue to enjoy and prosper from the victories of the trade union movement. Instead of showing some gratitude you put shit on the organisation that has delivered that for you. There is only one name for you mate “DEADSET SCAB”.

    • Brad, I am a former union delegate and appreciate what unions have done but deadest has some valid points. The union should be there to ensure fairness and balance between employers and employees but lot of unions and delegates get it so wrong now. Although I still support union in causes like this trying keep more people in full time work and not agency or casual work and not privatise work the government should control.
The problem is unions now protect those who don't deserve to work and not those that are treated unfairly. I have seen first hand as a delegate some staff blatantly taking the piss and trying to use the union as safety net to protect them. It also seems most delegates are either trouble makers or people who are abusing the system and unfortunately use there position to try bully under trained managers and staff to their advantage.
Thank fully unions did get many great conditions we now enjoy but they also need to realise the world has changed and for Australia to compete on world stage or be productive they can't be so militant and drive conditions that hamper business running productively. QR is prime example and is complete mess due to union conditions and it is all coming out in the press in qld due to shortage of qualified drivers, insane bonuses for executives and senior staff along with worse service in years.
    • 17% Union participation rate in this country. Unless 83% are starving, Unions aren't as necessary as they would have everyone believe.
