Possible rule change

As seen momentum is a huge thing in modern game and many sides score 2 or 3 back to back tries. Watch old games and it didn't happen as often or with as dire consequences such as conceding up to 18 points in under 10 minutes as seen now. The reason was contested possessions allowed teams fight back which have now been taken out of the game. Teams can't strike for ball in ruck, can't push or rake in a scrum or strip the ball in tackle etc..Would the game be better if teams that score take the kick off to resume play. Most other sports have this rule in place, if not they have a contest or just hand the ball over to other side.It would stop some teams holding ball for over 5mins and 4 or more consecutive sets. There have been few games this season ruined where a team has run away with game in 5 or 10min period with back to back tries. Even if not scoring they can get ball March down the field and pin side inside their back corner. This is not good for the game and fans. Sometimes a team can hold the ball for nearly 10minutes straight of possession with couple penalties, tries and drop outs.Would this rule bring back a bit of the old school contest instead of teams relying on momentum to score. For every exciting miracle come back game utilising the current rule and scoring few quick tries, there are 2 or 3 games ruined by team dominating possession in this manner.

  • Not a bad idea, Midget! I think the current refereeing also contributes to certain teams getting piggy backed downfield from unnecessary penalties or 50/50 call penalties. There definitely needs to be either some rule changes to make it an even playing field and /or there needs to be some changes in the way referees control the games. Maybe more accountability towards referees or wrong decisions that are obviously incorrect or blatant being overturned and points possibly deducted. Example could be the Souths last try against the Eels on Friday night which was blatantly a knock on and everybody knew it then the try should have been overturned and points deducted from Souths final score.
  • There is also a rule where you can opt to not take the conversion kick, perhaps you could combine that with your suggestion.
    • The clock should stop from time try scored to ball is kicked off to restart play then wouldn't have to put not take kick. See lot of time wasted with kicks for goals.
