PIECING THE PUZZLE TOGETHER

It's already be mention in different forms, but what are people's thought on our backline moving forward. We know that Flash will be moving on and our halves are locked in. Or if not then we'd have to look outside the current team for long term replacements.Hayne is still a maybe, but does he have a place with younger players eager to fill the same roll.Personally from what I've seen this year our biggest mistake was signing Jennings. I believe that it has weaken our left attack and hasn't given us anything as an advantage. Now this is not an I told you so, because like most I was excited to hear that he had signed with us.I'm just finding I want Taka and Guth as our centres moving forward. Now Taka does have injury concerns ie trouble with leg injuries but I just love what he brings and I think the way he links with his winger and uses his size is an advantage.Guth is obviously a centre, he's wasted on the wing and lost a bit in defense. He does a lot of work and coming back from a season ending injury was always going to take time, but I like the kid.French has speed to burn and is great defensively for his size. I'm sure he'd stay another season on the wing for FG experience by not much past that.Obviously BA has a plan and sees what these guys do behind the scene, but as of right now if they were all off contract at the end of this season I'd go.HayneFrenchGuthTakaSemiNormanFozWith a good centre as backup for the Taka injury sometime in the season. And no Toutai is not that player. But of course Jennings has 2 more yrs, so I wonder what BA has planned? I'm assuming,GuthFrenchTakaJenningsSemiNormanFoz

    • Bagging players?

Tad, I thought I gave a reasonable assessment of how I'd like to see the pieces fall. We have got too many good players and somehow they have to fit for the best outcome of the team. I'm just giving my opinion.

How about you give me your opinion on how the team will look and why you'd leave someone out?

They can't all play, so sometime tough decisions have to be made.

Remember your the one who wanted our juniors to make up the bulk of the team.
  • Several scenarios you have not taken in to account Rider.

Norman - his future hangs in the balance at this point in time.

He gets a guilty ruling in court and we could lose him.

Foz - so much BS, rumour and innuendo flying around one gets the feeling he also may not figure in our future plans too much longer.

GET OVER THE HAYNE CRAP FFS. Ain't going to happen and with the squad as it has been progressing, there is NO spot in our team for him. Next you will be calling for Inu to come back - ANCIENT HISTORY with NO bearing on our future.

Jennings - never liked him and he hasn't done anything to change my opinion. You got it right by saying he is a detriment to our right side attack.

Taka - now there is a conundrum. He filled the 5/8 role well - not brilliantly, but certainly didn't embarrass himself by any measure. Perfect partner for Semi but????????? he has put up some very good kicks that resulted in points for us.

Kenny Edwards does not want to stay in the 6 jersey, but again he has held his own (most of the time) against full time 5/8 specialists. Haven't really seen him put ball to boot though which puts pressure on Norman.

Surely there is someone in the team that can kick a ball.

    So..........

    1 - Gutho / French (future?)

    2 - Semi

    3 - Jennings

    4 - Taka

    5 - French.

6 & 7 Norman and Foz if they stay with us. Now if either or both are lost to the Eels I think you won't have to worry too much about the Gutho / French argument because we will be screwed once again.

The blog should be asking - If Norman gets hit with a guilty verdict and gets punted by the NRL, and if Foz completely derails - what then?

I have the ultimate faith in "the best coach in the business" ruled by the "best board and CEO in the business"

    • Hahaha still grumpy I see.

Doubt Norman will go unless we can't afford him. Possession is different to being caught with them in your system.

For what it's worth Foz said that he intends to play on next yr.

Only reason I brought up Hayne is he has to be included in the conversation as he's made it known that if he comes back to NRL the Eels are where he wants to play. That doesn't mean I'm pushing for him, just he can't be ignored at this stage.

And to finish off, BA might not be the best coach but even you have to be happy with how he's handled the team through all this. Would you prefer we had JT! Lol

Is this election getting to you? Haha
    • TBUR, I actually like JT. I think he is a very good coach and is doing a top job at the Tigers. In saying that, at this stage I wouldn't trade Arthur for any coach. Not just because he is a good coach but because it is apparent that he genuinely LOVES Parramatta and demands pride in the Jersey, a culture I don't think any other coach could have brought to Parramatta. I initially was surprised Arthur got the job over JT, but am thankful now. Cheers Steve Sharp
    • Also question mark on Semi, are the rumours true or not about French rugby? If with us next year would put him in the centres with Taka to bench as utility. As stated if lose both halves we are farked big time next year and will be battling big time against top 4 teams this year with only one half.

  • I agree TBUR. 100%. At the start of the season, happy with Jennings, though frustrated with what we allegedly paid for him. Then concerned Taka and Semi would be split. Then along comes Gutho. In hindsight, Jennings is not worth the amount we pay him, but this is through hindsight.

Semi and French create a brilliant wing pair. Gutho, Taka and Jennings our centres going forward. But oh to free up $800K for a couple of big boppers...
  • would like to see 1 Semi 2 French 3 Jennings 4 Gutherson 5 Mansour and Taka as our utility on the bench.

    • I think you could swap Semi and French and you'd have a great backline there, shane
  • How awesome is Flash playing? Love him to stay another season Great combinations. Semi what a thoroughbred.
    • Flash has well and truly done his job, but we have long term to look at and the Rooster have given him a good deal apparently, so he should leave with our blessing.

BA wanted to keep him another year but we don't have the cash to beat a roosters offer and the younger lads have stepped up so I think we'll be ok.
