Cory Norman said in an interview we have lost 3 matches scoring the same amount of tries but conceding penalties. I checked the stats and the story ain’t pretty: the Eels have conceded 12 from 12 penalty goals, and kicked 0 from 0 penalty goals!
Maybe Norman is right to suggest we just kick more penalties? Moneyball?
PS: excluding Manly’s 9-0 try count, it’s has been 10 tries to 9. Though we have conceded 17 from 19 try conversions and only kicked 4 from 9 try conversions.

Take the two!
We were screaming at them to take the two on a couple of occasions against the panthers, I guess the reason we haven't been kicking penalty goals is we don't have a good goal kicker. Another area BA needs to address.
It is the new trend now. Goal line defence is so tough to crack now because teams go with only marker, sometimes none on their own line plus the fullback in the line it’s a 12 or 13 man defensive line. Gotta take the two now.

Exactly.
All our penalties seem to come late, almost as though the ref is evening out the penalty count.
I think it was against the sharks our first penalty was in the 52nd minute or something.
Perhaps they should change the rule that any penalty shot taken within 10 metres from the oppositions try line which has resulted in a penalty is only worth 1 point if successful!
Personally I think new rule should be introduced to combat it. Maybe introduce team fouls like basketball. If side gives a total of 5 penalties as team in 20m zone or 3 within 20m zone in a set of 6, side gets shot at goal followed by a drop out from defending team instead regular restart .
It would kill teams to give up 2 points then field position and possible try risking 8 point turn around. It would stop teams giving away penalties quick smart.
Another option is to make any try coming off penalty in 20m attack zone similar to penalty try. If score on that set get a second shot at goal. 8 point turnarounds would be huge and also make teams question giving penalties away.
Or make penalties worth 3 points
