Our forwards matched the Panthers

I have a different view on Sunday’s game as I thought we matched them in the forwards. Not talking statistically or anything but my observation is that they didnt dominate us in that area and I think we got over the advantag line at least as well as they did. I felt we were good in the forwards but where we were let down was in the area of creativity, breaking the line and being able to make something. I do agree we could do with another big prop who can bend the line but I felt our forwards did the job this week.

  • I agree James . We just need the 2nd phase play . Or we won’t be bending the line much . We are the most dangerous team when we have offf loads
    • From what we hear they practise the offloads but gun shy about using it. Who’ll ever forget 09 and the offloading style they brought in.

  • Missed my calling it appears

  • James, I can't disagree with any of what you've said. I would like to see a different middle rotation and although I believe Beau Scott is and has been great for the club, I reckon we would get more out of Matagi in the middle than Scott at the moment. Matagi runs harder and hits harder when he is "on his game" than I believe Beau Scott is able to do at the moment and he can do it for 2 x 20min spells.
    • Beau Scott isn’t really an impact player is he? More a worker so coming on for 2 20s doesn’t seem to suit him or the team. Don’t think he’ll be dropped. There fir his leadership, experience and defended. I’d like to see him get some more minutes personally
  • Yes.......they wore the same numbers on their backs.

      1. Have another look Frank and make a judgement. I know they’ve been bad but this week I think they matched em
  • Our post contact metres where better this week

    • That was my sense watching the game. I’d have to see it again but it certainly seemed like we matched them
    • I agree with BEM. I felt our forwards hung on. But the Panthers rolled through us easily.

We scrambled hard and worked hard but our go forward is our single biggest problem this year (I sound like a broken record). Our only option is 2nd phase play to give our backs a shot at a broken and retreating defensive line. We simply don’t have the players to bend the line.

Our best metre eater is Mannah and he plays about half the game and can’t offload. Brown is our best all round forward who does have an offload in him. The rest make up the numbers.

I’d swap every single forward we have for the Panthers entire pack. Actually every other NRL side. Our pack is awful.

"This is one of my biggest concerns going forward. We don't seem to have anyone really coming through. Greig is a back end of season player, hits his form and fitness late in the season.
This would be either Paulo's last or second last big minute…"

"1. Moses
2. Gutho
3. Lomax
4. Jennings
5. Beau Scott, at the time he brought a lot to the team. What was a inexperienced side and forward pack. He helped build the foundations a lot. "

"Tex Hot will get more money in the UK. Over here he is a winger or back up fullback. Over there he will get another gig at fullback. Not a bad player but journeyman. "
