Pretty decent article here our own Bevan French seen in the top 3 guys in the league over 40 and 100 metres.

Funny I was told Bevan French didn't have long speed in a thread here during the ORF Season lol.

  • Yeah I don't know... Personally I wouldn't rate Bev as anywhere near Roberts and Addo Carr.. But what would I know?
How about the kid from the sharks who is supposed to be even faster than Addo Carr?
I would put a few people as faster than Bev over a distance including Valentine Holmes
    And Vunavalu.
You really can't beat speed in an NRL backline, Shane Whereat and Lee odenryn were pretty ordinary players but damn they could run. In talent terms, most wingers have more skill than Addo Carr but Addo Carr will probably play SOO.
I would love to see us find a half decent winger who could run like the wind.
    • If I was selecting the SOO team this year I would select the following backline:

      1.  Tedesco

      2.  Tommy Turbo

      3.  Roberts

      4.  Hayne

      5.  Addo-Carr

  • There is no secrecy with the players as all of the quick footy players have competed in athletics at State and National level in high school.  Both Addo-Carr and Roberts have ran under 11 seconds for 100 metres before.

Addo-Carr is the quickest player in the game and neither French or Roberts would run him down if he was in the clear.  Last season Addo-Carr burned Roberts in a foot race even though Josh had the ball in his hand which slows you down.

French would be the quickest over 15-25 metres and he accelerates quicker then anybody else.  One of the advantages of French on wing is he can turn, accelerate and chase down from behind 99% of NRL players, which is a rare talent.  At fullback French has to tackle front on or from the side and he doesn't get to use that pace to chase someone down from behind (ie., he loses that freakish ability).

  • Roberts is a dud. I don't want him anywhere near Origin. The only time he's interested is when he's given the ball in the clear. Plus he's a turnstile in defence, JT would chew him up and spit him out down our right side.

    • JT is retired.  Roberts was in very, very good form last year leading into the SOO, but then got injured.  We have tried over and over again to win with a defensive oriented team.  I think it is time for a change and we need to go with a fast attacking backline with the attitude of we don't care how many tries you score because we will score more.

      • Ok, Cameron Munster will carve him up.

In any event, I was at Suncorp Stadium for the game last year when we put 50 on them. Twice in the first 20 minutes when we coming off our own line Semi beat Roberts on his outside coming from Roberts inside shoulder, he beat him with a simple fend and effort.

What did the man who claimed he had more speed than Oxford St do ?

He quit, he just jogged in pursuit, zero effort. Second time he didn’t even jog, he dawdled back. I’d have torn his contract up on the spot. The most overrated player in the game by a huge margin.

Ants have more ticker than this bloke.

        • Semi beat Roberts up that night at Suncorp. However having said that he would still be a candidate for SOO I would think. bit early to be picking the side just yet. I think that there will be a lot of changes this year.

  • I remember reading last year that Bevan was fastest over 40 m and Jennings over 100m when they raced at Parra training.

Bevan might actually be faster this year as he's bulked up his upper body strength. All champion sprinters are built like a brick sh*thouse on their upper body.

  • Roberts couldn't tackle a salad sandwich.

    Plus he's a grubby POS.
