Mitchy Moses and Team Performance

With Mitch Moses due back from a short injury layoff and Corey Norman seemingly on the outer with the club, it’s time to ask how the team have performed without Mitch?IMO our attack seemed a lot better with a scrappy win over the cowboys but a great attacking effort against one of the best in the league in Souths. Sure our edge defense killed us in that game, but with ball in hand, for a moment we started to look like the Eels of 2017.My biggest gripe out about Moses this year is he constantly pushes the low percentage pass especially when the defense is up on him. Sometimes as a half you need to take your medicine which means getting flogged by the defense, but at least your team learns to trust that you wont be giving them a hospital ball and begins to play for you. His leadership, play direction and kicking game also have a long way to go. He hasn’t proven he can do any effectively enough to be our 7.Without doubt, he’s a great ball runner, somewhat like Austin. So the question is, is the club in the market for the right half to pair with Moses?

  • Probably not. Looks like Gutherson is gonna be the 5/8th. Personally I think he is a fullback/centre capable of filling in somewhat soundly at 5/8th or on the wing. But what do I know.

    • Sorry but I disagree with you on that Poppa, Moses is not thinking twice the pace as everyone else, most of the time he is running sideways and has no idea what he is doing so how the hell can you expect the rest of the team to know. He just runs them out of room giving them no chance. His kicking game is utter rubbish going straight to the fullback, winger or out on the full/ dead ball line. Yes the structure does not help but Moses and team have permission off Ba to play what is in front of them but unfortunately Moses has no vision or idea even though he thinks he has as seen when at the tigers and is still the same, no footy IQ what so ever and until people wake up and see him for what he is and get rid of him nothing will change. Our attack improves 100% without him in the team, just look and see how Brooks has improve without the headless chicken at the tigers.

      • This year Moses reminds me of Benji Marshall during his stint at the Dragons playing sideline to sideline without going forward. Look how much better the Dragons attack is with Hunt playing much more direct, admittedley Dragons forwards are providing some momentum and making life easier for the play makers.

      • Agree, Moses is years off being a quality half, thats why i wanted to go with Maloney.

Moses struggles out there big time, i dont think he's got a long term future here, he runs around like a chicken with its head cut off.

    • I'm with Shanesy.

Come on Pops, Moses has to have some accountability.
  • I think a problem with Moses is he struggles to play what is in front of him, which is fairly common in todays halves. That is why he pushes the unnecessary pass, and why he seems to take the wrong option frequently, he has a preconceived idea of what he will do, and is unable to change that most of the time. At least Austin is more of a footballer in that sense, although he does struggle for consistency. Norman is also better at attempting to play what is in front of him, but for whatever reason he struggles to actually make a decision on what he wants to do, which is why we see him succumb to the tackle so often.

    • give him a decent couple of forwards and a penetrating hooker as Mick says and i think you may have a better halfback .in saying that i still think Mitchell best position id 5/8 as thats were he played his best football at the tigers .just my humble opinion.

    • Yep... most of our issues start at #9 I think... then flow through the forwards then to the halves. Fix #9 and so much good will flow on from that - most important position on the field I think. People have always said you can't win a comp without a great halfback - I think it's more the 9.

  • Moses runs across field a lot which means we need players running holes as options. I thought the Moses - Moreora combo would be more effective then it had been after Moreora started to hit holes last year. Players like gutho, French and Smith should be running inside lines to hold the defence up or be genuine option to switch play.
If we had player like Boyd corndner or Ryan Hoffman who knows how to run a line Moses would be more effective as he would have option to pass short or throw cutout pass. As we don't have good hole Runner we need create space another way and that is with speedy players off his hip and running inside lines.
Defences aren't threatened with parra due to the fact no players are in motion giving him options meaning he runs out of room.
The wingers and centres don't even give him a good option of switching play by running inside him and watch him run out of room.
Our attack needs an overhaul but can be fixed with Moses who continually tries hard. Better option then Norman who has more skill but less commitment.

  • No he would not as his selective passes are crap and usually the wrong 1's. He is a clueless dip stick who thinks he is better than what he is. Moses I am taking about and look how well Brooks has developed with Moses gone and that also means before Benji returned. He is no good as a half whether 7 or 6 is on his back, he might make a 9 if he could fix his shit defence.
