Lack of Forwards against the Storm Killed us

Kane Evans was massive against the Dragons.

I think he setup at least two tries. Having him injured along with Mannah and Alvaro has been telling.

There were certain times in the match against the Storm we needed Props to do some hard yards but there was nobody.

Hopefully we can get some Props back for the Cows.

  • I agree but I thought Tepai had a great game in the middle
  • Agree mate.

Bup said it in a great post yesterday - against the Storm we lacked go forward and after-contact metres. I'm not going on stats but that's deff what was happening on Friday night - as a result we didn't get any ruck superiority at any point during the game either. Our forwards were honest and put in plenty of effort - we are just lacking that metre-eater that can put us on the front foot.

Evans and Mannah were missed although it must be remembered that Saints were vastly inferior to what the Storm produced. Also, it seems to me that Nathan Brown is our only middle forward capable of constantly making good yardage by running good lines, running at holes, knowing where to run and when to step at the line and/or change direction. Some of our forwards make it unbelievably hard for themselves.

    The efforts there though.

      • What the hell are you smoking? He makes 153m per match on average from 15 runs which works out to around 10m per carry.

        • Hes smoking PCP.

        • Thanks Supe.

Have to admit I rarely read stats  - I just go to the game (or sit infront of the tv), watch the footy, and form my opinions on what I see in front of me :)

          • I agree with pretty much everything you've said in that post Kram. Without Mannah and Alvaro we distinctly lack go-forward. Evans had probably his best match for us against St George, but I'm not sure how effective he would've been against Melbourne.

St George made it easier for us through poor discipline and we won the middle early. Brown does a great job of arrowing in at the A defenders behind the ruck, forcing them to continually work which is what allows him to pick up post-contact metres (of which he's run over 800 metres worth this season).

The reason I haven't been prepared to write off BA and the team next year is I think Junior Paulo and Shaun Lane could have a big impact on our go-forward. Paulo particularly is integral to laying that platform and I think if you throw in Mannah, Alvaro, Evans and Terepo, you've actually got some decent forwards. Alvaro, Terepo and Paulo all average over 100 metres per game. If you've got four middles (including Brown), running for over 100 metres, then you're a long way to dominating the middle and providing space for guys like Moses, Hayne and Norman.

Paulo, Brown and Alvaro have also got an offload in them which could really open teams up and if there's one thing Moses has shown he's got it's good support play through the middle.

The biggest issue we had this season was the lack of a dominant middle forward. Paulo solves that problem and, provided our other props stay fit, I think we'll have a good mix of size and mobility.

            • Yeah - I'm holding out hope for Junior and Lane as well. I've been watching Lane alot closer since he signed and am impressed - they can both go a long way toward changing the dynamic of the pack.

Ideally I'd like to see another prop come on board - a big, aggressive vigorous type player with good leg speed - the likes of Marty Tapau would be nice :) Cheers mate..

            • Whats' that supposed to mean you f*cking imbecile?

It's dim witted uncharasmatic halfwits like you who often make participating in the forums an unpleasant experience mate. Someone puts their point of view accross and all you can do is offer up lame smart arse comments - at least try and make them marginally entertaining.

I reckon I'd rather shave my nads with a potato peeler than spend one minute in your company - you come across as the type of no personality buckwheat who bores people to tears with your uber lame sense of humor. I'm pretty sure that if I had to sit next to the likes of you at the footy I would hang myself before half time in the opening round. Just a boring, brutal bumder with the brains of a stick insect.

Now, as the late great Jackie Gleason once said in Smokey And The Bandit - "F**K OFF!!"

    • Nathan Brown pretty much is a Lone Ranger in the middle and is the only guy with any leg speed.

I don't know why no one pushes up on him as any hint of momentum this guy finds yards but as above he's always running on his own with little support.

      • Only forward with leg speed?  Really?  Start with Terepo too shoot that down.
