Because he got unders in the early years of the contract. You have to average the cost across the length of the contract.
Back ended contracts are the only way for Sydney clubs to build a premiership window. Every club does it and they don't do it because it's a bad idea. Stop carrying on like back-ended contracts have no purpose.
Backending contracts of known dropkicks if bloody clever work. Chances are you can ditch them for bad behaviour before they collect.
It's also why clubs have to be careful frontoading contracts. I wonder how many players trying to get out of the final year or two of a contract got a nice fat signing bonus up front.
And probably unintended in this instance as BA loved Kenny and went in to bat for him many times before he finally did the straw that broke the camels toe oh err ....back. Camels back.
You couldn't say he didn't give Kenny enough chances.
