KEATING, MATEO, INU, MORTIMER - CANTERBURY BANKSTOWN EELS TARGETS!!!

http://www.smh.com.au/rugby-league/league-news/eels-dogs-fight-over...

I suppose it is a back handed rap that they want Eels... Every team knows, that even from the juniors, Parramatta players who come through the system have great skills and are very coachable..

Look at each team, and most have players that have been through the Parra at one time or another..

Jamesy, do you know how many goes Kris actually got to play at halfback. Two. One we lost to Bulldogs due to woeful team defence but he was our best player on the park. The second we upset North Queensland. His third game at halfback, he got his jaw smashed in the first ten minutes.

And if you're going to make that argument, you also have to note that we didn't win a single game with Robson at halfback until Mortimer came in the side in round 13.

How about we lay off both players and do what I'm sure the coach will be doing and give them both the opportunity to show their worth in the trials and perhaps the early games.

1Eyed, bless your little cotton socks! Unfortunately, Parramatta fans like Jamesy exist EVERYWHERE and unfortunately tend to stick their heads out during the off season when there is nothing better to talk about or alternatively, when we are losing.

Some people fail to recognise that RL is indeed a team sport and that we win and lose as a team. It makes sense in their minds that because we began winning when KK was injured, that KK was of course the problem.

This argument of course fails to take into account that we had at that point of the season lost Mateo, the Hayne experiment had failed and the confidence of the team was not at its highest. It is unfortunate that KK is remembered in such a negative light, considering during that tumultuous period, he was the only attacking spark that we had on the park.

Both players deserve an opportunity, unfortunately some people don't think that to be appropriate - and they are wrong. :-)

Agreed with your last comment. To be honest, I love Kris Keating, but as a creative pivot not as an organisational half. In my opinion, Robson is the man for the structural organisation of a true number 7, while Mortimer and Keating can go for the more creative number 6 spot.

This is just my view... in no way do I think either of those three halves are dud players that need to be released. Keating is far more talented than Robson creatively, but I feel Robson has more experience and is a more traditional half.

And you base this known fact on what evidence?? jamesy, you can't just make wild, ridiculous, baseless remarks and expect to look like anything other than a tit!

Robson deserves 1st crack at halfback role but hes only going to be around for another season or two. could we get away with having both Kris Keating and mortimer in the halves? both pretty small and would be targetted by opposition. Unfortunately it will put alot of pressure on who ever plays lock, Mateo doesnt fill me with confidence in defence. if they want to keep keating and morts then mateo needs to be offloaded.

I disagree totally. For 1 the defence of your 13 has nothing to do with your 6 or 7 as they will both defend inside both centers on ether side of the field and secondly mateo has nothing wrong with defending and if he misses a tackle or two he makes up for it in attack. I think if morts and kk are our 6 and 7 mateo is a must to take some pressure of the young fellas. Besides all this metao is the best 13 in the comp i wouldnt swap him for anyone.IMO

Mateo over stagg or Glen Stewart? are you serious ?If NRL is going to be NFL like then all means, carry comeone who cant defend... the lock has to be able help defend on the outside. Ben Smith will more than likely start at lock this year and mateo off the bench in his last season at parra.

Mateo is better than both stagg & stewart for sure. Stagg is a great defender and not much more and stewart can ball play a bit but nothing like mateo. You just dont like him and thats your opinion but you must have disliked jim dymock also as they play much the same style

I don't understand where the perception regarding Mateo's defence comes from, because the stats do not support it. In fact, in a few of the final games last year, his stats were outstanding for the game time he had, and he never recorded any significant amount of missed tackles to deserve the poor defender tag. For what it's worth, my guess is by the end of the season Morts will be playing 7 and Humble 6 with Robson as the backup half. KK and Inu will sign elsewhere and Mateo will have played SOO!

It's all supply and demand, ain't it. We've got too many halves and the Dogs don't have enough. So you can understand their interest. The Eels were short forwards so we pinched Poore from the Dragons and Shackleton from the Roosters. I reckon their fans would be pretty pissed off too. There's three issues here... 1) Loyalty went out the window years ago. 2) The salary cap and 3) These blokes need to pay their mortgages so will chase the highest dollar ( I would if I was them).

The best law they could bring in is, of your starting 17, (say) seven HAVE to be local juniors of that particular club. Trust me, clubs would fast wise up to developing their own talent then. Bring that in AND get rid of the salary cap... It would still mean teams had a good mix of experience and young guys, clubs could keep their stars and all the good players wouldn't go over to French rugby.

Its just that the dogs cant produce their players and we can .. They have to BUY their players to become a good side .. Were just naturally talented.
