Is the "No-Hayne" Plan becoming clearer?

Looking at the recruits thus far, I'm wondering whether something is becoming obvious. The centre additions of Taka and Champion indicate the obvious move of Hoppa to fullback. Both these players are also solid defenders. The recruitment of forwards is an indication that BA wanted to improve the middle. Our atrocious for and against tells us that this is a no brainer. So what is the post-Hayne plan. To me the recruitment is an indication that the loss of Hayne has provided the Eels with an opportunity to sign players who could bolster our defence. To me it's a sign that BA had no interest in trying to find another x-factor player. He knows that the biggest hindrance to the Eels improvement is the lack of resilience in the team and the players signed were not meant to be stars but rather those who show that trait (not sure about Robinson here). For me, the unicorn is now alive and well.

  • Mmmmm 60boy, I'm not sure about the rationale. Champion & most of the new recruits were &/or underway in being negotiated before Hayne pulled the plug also I fail to see how re-signing Crappy Joe will supplant the Hayne flight.

    • So you still think that the club only just found out about Hayne? The club has known for some time. I didn't include crabman in my analysis. His signing may be a favour for Timmy.
    • Agreed MP a lot of people here, one in particular, forget that deals with these new recruits were being negotiated before Haynes departure so they were going to be put into the side with the expectations that Hayne would be there and not because he left.

  • I just stated fact, you are having a guess feces.

    • The first whispers of a departure came when Hayne first went on his end of season trip. The mail was that it was the purpose of his trip. We may never get the full story, but at the very least he has commented that he knew that this would be his last year and that he only stayed on because he helped to bring BA to the club. We had all wondered how the club could afford to sign anyone with the salary cap issues. Now we know how negotiations were possible. The proof to the contrary is whether any other significant high profile signing is made.
      • To counter this line of thinking, Seward at the press conference, suggested the club now had $1.2mil to spend.
Doesn't sound like a club that was using Haynes salary to negotiate new signings, well at least not yet.
We released Tanginoa and Loko to free up cash for some signings.
Smith, Tonga and Fui retired and their money is being used on their replacements.
        • You would think they would be using some of that money to front end watmoughs deal.

          • Hamish we can only hope that they are cause we don't want to be paying Watmough big $$ towards the backend of his 4 year deal.
            • Agree, otherwise known as the Des Hasler trap.

        • Hi Frank, u have pretty well covered my thoughts on the recruitment background.

"But he is the one responsible for these type of efforts,  if they were a once or twice a season thing you could solely blame the players but they happen regularly every season,  this is on the coach."
