Interesting Peats Comments

Peats being interviewed about Hayne and the differences between the Titans and Parra:

http://www.brisbanetimes.com.au/rugby-league/gold-coast-titans/gold-coast-titans-hooker-nathan-peats-advised-jarryd-hayne-he-will-be-able-to-express-himself-away-from-parramatta-eels-20160808-gqncna.html

Of note:

Asked what differences Hayne could expect at the Titans from his own experiences, Peats said: "Probably just playing a bit more open footy. There's not as much pressure on me here, I don't think.

"At Parramatta we had dominant halves, but up here we've got young halves. Tyrone [Roberts] and Ash [Taylor] really play off the cuff and that's the type of footy I like to play.

"I can probably do a bit more for myself up here rather than Parra – I'm not working as hard on my defence – and that's nothing against Parra. I loved my footy while I was there and I loved playing there, but I probably wasn't doing as much work [on my attack] down there as I am up here.

  • Since most of our go forward comes from our edge back rowers, we need a highly structured system to make sure the ball is going in the right places at the right point in the tackle count.
Off-the-cuff halves need a much simpler game plan, based on working off quick play-the-balls in the middle. The downside here is that if you can stop the go forward in the middle you give the halves no opportunities. A highly structured game plan includes options that mean you can adapt to the defence.
  • Parra were an off the cuff attacking style of team for many years as are other teams like the tigers, however the defence was crap & we had to score more than 24 points to win a game. Our attack ended up being pass it to Hayne & lets see what happens, so if that's the way the Titans want to play then go right ahead, I really like the Tough Eels team I'm watching this year. Just look at how many wins we have on the board this season. All I can say is: IN BRAD WE TRUST.

    • I aggree
  • Much prefer the style we play now rather than 3 or 4 years ago when we just threw it around.
  • The off-the-cuff style also didn't work because we struggled to generate quick play-the-balls. Our middle forwards struggled to go forward, and edge forwards like Horo, Maitua and Ben Smith were all better suited to attacking in shift plays than to making hit ups off early ball. Our current second rowers Ma'u, Edwards and Moeroa are all very threatening with early ball. Most of our quick play-the-balls come from these guys.
  • Interesting how Peats apparently rang Hayne to talk him into coming to the Titans.

Interesting as in it meant his action would have the same result as what happened to him at Parra, one or two team mates will be shown the door.

Hoffman and Mead have been instrumental in the Titans success and yet they are being told to look elsewhere because they now have Hayne.

Team harmony will take a hit and Karma can be a bitch.

    • I wonder what will happen when roberts is fit. Id be so pissed if I worked all year to get into the finals then hayne comes along and takes your spot. Its like they did all the work and hayne swoops in last minute and gets all the credit.
  • Well you know theyre paying him $1.2M so Hayne will be in the team.

  • Honestly why I don't want the Titans to make the finals. I did prior to Hayne dropping in for Peats sake, but now it seems like Hayne will come sailing in on round 22 and act like he's the reason they're in the finals.

  • Peats doesn't feel the pressure because the Gold Coast Titans are a plastic irrelevant club in Rugby League land. They have no history and no tradition. When they lose nobody cares, nobody hassles him in the street. When they win nobody cares and nobody congratulates him on the street. That's why there is no pressure. Nathan was living in the heart of Parramatta when he played here. Playing for one of if not the most supported team comes with a lot of pressure as there are a lot of people riding on results.

"Not really, as proven on our day we are a good team, but I think that team is quickly sliding backwards."
