How are you all going to feel now after a loss?

So just a few quick questions which i've been thinking about. Now that we're winning again, and definitely competing again, how are you going to feel after our next loss? And how long do you think we need to play consistently well for you to get over the fact that you think we may slip and be easybeats again?

The reason i ask is there's been two games this year where i had to listen to the call due to being at work, the roosters game being one of them. During the game i've checked the match thread on this site and notice alot of people very quick to get negative again. eg. this player is going terrible, what were we thinking there, here we go again etc. at the time i remember thinkin gee we're either just in front or just in front of the roosters, this is huge considering the rabble we've been for years!! why are people talking like this so quickly!

So if we have a loss or two do we all start thinking the worst again? Even the best teams don't win every game. At what point do you think we will all stop worrying that we will end up playing like the parra of previous years?

To answer what i think of a loss. At the beginning of the year I put us around twelth, with a bit of luck i thought we may get caught in the cluster that fights to be the team that finishes 8th, but after what i've seen i see no reason we aren't genuine top 8 contenders. So for me i wouldn't think a loss would have me heading towards a cliff straight away.

  • The only reason I can see that we don't win the PREMIERSHIP is injuries...
  • It depends how and who we lose to.

Eels fans have had a gutfull of being embarrassed and falling back into old habits on the park.

We will have to show we have seriously turned the corner before fans start to be forgiving again.

And its not just us, every forum is hard on their team when it loses, go check out all the other forums, the roosters fans are furious with their team atm, even after winning the comp 7 games ago, check out the dogs or rabbits or saints forums, they are worse than us after losses.

If your team loses, its only fair fans get dirty on forums, to have it any other way is accepting mediocrity.

    cheers

    • Yeh agree. I think there is going to be a pessimistic tendancy from all Parra fans at the slightest sniff of slipping until we have at least seen a full season of serious consistent competitiveness till the very end and carried on well into next season. There is a lot of damage to be repaired which will take time to start turning pessimistic tendancies around. After the pai n we have endured it is only natural
    • I agree.
I've been mates with a Manly fan for ages. I remember in the mid 90s when we were hopeless, we watched an Eels v Manly game. We were ahead in the second half and I got excited. He started to laugh and told me that he knew Manly would come back. Sadly, I knew that they would too.
In 1997 we finally beat them. It was a big game on a Friday night and it was the real test of our credibility and whether we had actually turned the corner as a club.
During the reign of Brian Smith we knew that we could match it with any team. Even if we lost we knew that all was not lost.

Now we're back at the start of 1997. Our team is looking better but we're not yet convinced that we've turned the corner. It may be that we've been a bit lucky and it's possible that we'll crumble in a heap. It's going to take some time before we breathe easy again.

As a long time fan, I truly feel that what we are seeing this year is the real thing. We've got good players in important positions and the way we are playing is very attractive. We're not fluking our wins. I didn't think we could beat the Roosters. Not because I thought we'd give up. On paper they are sensational and on paper we are not as good. Same deal with the games v Penrith and Brisbane.
I'm stoked that we have won 3 in a row and I really hope we make it 4,5,6,7,8 and beyond.
Am I waiting for the bubble to burst? Kind of.

Will I give up if we do? No way. We're Eels fans. We know what we're in for and we'll keep hoping that better days are ahead.
    • Thanks Snake, you post has answered the question for me. Agree 100%, I don't want to see another 50 point score line. The Eels redeemed themselves against the Roosters, lets hope "that" game was a final lesson in attitude.

  • Despite the terrific start there are going to be some hiccups along the way, we won't be able to sustain this sort of form all year round as long as the effort and commitment is there than that's all fans and members could ask for.
  • Grand Final! Grand Final! Grand Final!
  • Depends on who we lose to. I won't be happy if we lose to the tigers.

    • How can you be happy losing to anyone?
  • Spot on Micka.  The problem being us One Eyed Eel bloggers have been totally thrown out of sync, and are not used to all this winning business.  Channeling our frustrations into a negative blogs has become second nature, as our proud teams failures have become ingrained into our DNA.

Half a season under the winning ways of Brad Arthur, and  we'll be all happy chappys again.
