Hopefully - into the future we go

It has been painfully obvious ,over the last few seasons that Parramatta cant assemble a coaching staff that improves the abilities of the players.

I put this down to the coach and no one else. The coach is the one who is either happy  or unhappy with the progress of the team.

Wether we like it or not the coach has accepted mediocrity from all aspects of his area of responsibility. If a business was managed in this manner it would go broke and I guess that winning the spoon is that equivalent. And with that I perceive that the trainers have no idea also and are only capable of training a team to be a team of also -runs.

The Parramatta Directors need to have a long and hard look at each other and listen to the new director of football. Its obvious that the board has no idea what is needed.

Time will tell if the review was just a talkfest  and if the board is prepared to allow the new director of football to direct the teams future. This appointment is one of the most monumental appointments in the history of Parramatta. I am hoping that this guy is ruthless with the coaching staff and not scared to confront the Parramatta Board members and tell them how it is, because it is obvious that The Parramatta Board has no idea.

Parramatta has been too soft for too long , and that has been in all aspects of the club. Mediocrity has been the way of Parramatta  ,from the front office and it has filtered all the way through to the coaching staff and players.

If any of us had bought something that didn't work how it should we all know what we would do. The coaching staff know why they bought a player and they know what they should expect from that player.

I give the  coaching staff notice that I expect them to change the attitude and performance of the team. Are the training staff retirees also?. 2018 showed that there was next to none ability in the training staff.

Parramatta are a professional football team and I .like all the supporters, expect results. Results also incorporating the contributions of the trainers.

  • Good post Don and can't agree more with you on this topic.

Brad Arthur would rather older more experienced players to work with, I guess the question might need to be asked on whether he knows himself that he doesn't have the ability to nurture and develop youth.

People will possibly argue that point with me and say he bled some youth into the side this season but he was ultimately left with no choice as no other players were available.

If Kaysa Pritchard and Cameron King were fit all season Mahoney wouldn't have been afforded the opportunity to taste 1st Grade, this disappoints me as the kid had shown enough potential to warrant him a chance on the bench beforehand.

As for Bernie Gurr, the bloke seems reactive to things happening around him instead of having a vision and being pro-active.

For many years this club has failed to take advantage of the junior base it has yet Bernie needed an independent auditor to tell him he was failing at this?

The sooner Gurr goes back to the Roosters and Arthur walks out the door the better, I don't think things will get much better while they are here.

I do hope I'm very wrong however!

  • You lost me at , we should listen to the bloke with less than a years experience in his position .

    • Its pretty clear that 2018 showed that the coaching knowledge base was bare. Make no changes and there will be no changes in the ability of the team.

    • Are you saying that you have no faith in the people who endorsed the findings of the review? I bleed blue and gold like the rest of you , you are making me suicidal

  • Expecting results is easy. Getting results is hard.

What would you do differently? And not as in "change staff" because we've done that heaps of times for the same result.

So, if you're expecting results, how are you expecting them to happen? Specifically?

    • Captain, the first thing you can do is experiment.

Underperforming players guaranteed their jersey again next week is half the problem.

Moses, Norman and Jennings should all have spent time in Reserve Grade for their lacklustre performances, no one has been made accountable for how the team performed this season.

It's almost as if Arthur told them that everything is going well.

    • Jack Gibson always said that he would have a player who was a hard trainer every time.

The Bronco want athletes and then train them to play football.

Parramatta  ...  well what do you say? Got potential to do what?  .....   who is our marquee player? Who do we have that can close a game? Oh that's right , we don't need one of them do we?

Semi wanted more money. If he comes back to league he will be worth 1.2mill in the form he was in when he left Parra.

As for changing staff. Are you saying that we are changing great staff with great staff? The results speak for themselves, mediocre staff breeds mediocrity.

      • Semi didn't know he could get more money until his agent found somewhere for him to hide from the constant media calling on Semi to give account for his family responsibilities and that was before he had his day in court.

When someone who's background is from a very poor peasant type environment sees the opportunity to earn big bucks to support the village as well as the family they are more than delighted to earn even bigger bucks without any concerns for loyalty. We didn't lose Semi, he left us out of convenience and opportunity. Good on him, I wish Semi well. But don't blame the coach or the club that discovered, nurtured and developed him.

You also mentioned, "Parramattas last few seasons"? Were you asleep during 2017 when we made top 4?

        • Semi first. What is the value of a player who can score 20 tries a season?

2017 was a great result for Parra and the supporters. The average result of the last 5 seasons is tragic

  • The players improved for four years and then one year they went backwards. That’s not enough evidence to conclude it's the coach’s fault.
