Hindy on Haynsey on Matty Show

Hindy mentioned how he expects Hayne to play the way he did against the Titans every game. Said that consistency has always been Hayne's problem. My question: Is it realistic to expect Hayne to carry the team and be brilliant all the time? Yes, he did a few years back but no one can sustain that freakiness. Look at Inglis, Barba, Slater .... they don't always fire and they have better players around them!

  • I think he was more talking about his efforts. There are some weeks where he looks a bit disinterested. This is often reflected in the way he gets up to play the ball. When he ambles to his feet and argues with the ref when getting up to play the ball, you can guarantee he us drifting in and out of that game and not performing at his peak. This lack of urgency to play the ball is Haynes worst habit. When he is springing to his feet to get a quick play the ball he often gets us a penalty. Just an observation. But I think Hindy was more indicating that not every week he shows urgency and can come across as complacent.
  • I don't buy this disinterested bullshit.

He is 3rd in meters gained in the comp, 3rd in tries, 1st in tackle breaks, first in line breaks, up their in try assists.

And he has missed 3 NRL games. So had 240mins less than the players above/around him in the stats.

You don't get those stats being 'disinterested'. I think people expect him to make 500m and score 5 tries a game to be 'switched on'. It's testament to his skill than he can achieve those stats without people realising how good he has been
    • Disinterest bullshit was started by Gould.
Gould is an idiot. Too many people listen to him.
    • Mac, that same Gould often sings Hayne's merits and argued the Blues would win if Hayne was on song. Yes Gould has also noted Hayne can go missing. Who hasn't? Including Hayne!
    • He only sings his merits because he absolutely has to. It's his job. Even though it would kill him inside. And probably pretend it was Benji doing it.
Some games he is heavily marked which is why he can't do what he does so well all the time.
Gould doesn't see that. He'll say something something stupid like, "he just looks uninterested" or "I wish I could pull him aside and have a talk to him"
    • Managing director of Penrith is apparently his job. We shouldn't have to hear his voice if he has that job. Choose one. Penrith manager director or commentator???
  • He is the most marked person in the comp. Teams spend hours preparing for him and containing him. I believe he tries his heart out each week.
Its the players around him that need to be more consistent and give him better opportunities.
  • Hayne's teammates don't need to give him massive amounts of time and space. Take his first try for example. Sandow had ran the ball a couple of times already, so by taking a couple of steps the defence backed off. When he threw the ball to Hayne, Greg Bird had given him a few metres and didn't come up and in meaning Hayne had enough space to wind up and explode through the gap. Those small efforts from the men around him allow him to play at that level. Is it any wonder that Hayne is playing his best since 2009 with a hooker who can supply good ball and challenge the defensive line? Last player to do that at Parramatta was Kevin Kingston.
    • That's right Super. Take for instance the week before Souths game and our atrocious dumb plays gave him nothing. Still, according too many, he was somehow supposed to pull a rabbit out of his proverbial.

      What a waste!

  • The problem with Hayne is that he is so talented that when he isnt making breaks, saving trys or setting up trys he looks uninterested. He has more talent in his little pinky then most other players that his average games look pedestrian even though his stats show he was outstanding.
Its the same problem Inglis has
