Hayne's enshrining his legacy as a league great

With Jarryd Hayne winning his second Dally M Player of the Year Medal, he becomes the youngest ever player to win multiple Dally M awards. At just 26 years old, he has an awards shelf most players wouldn't win in an entire career. Whilst he has often been maligned as a selfish, arrogant and at times lazy player, his talent is undeniable. His awards list reads: 3x Brad Fittler Medallist 2x Dally M Player of the Year 2x Dally M Fullback of the Year 1x RLIF Player of the Year 1x RLIF Fullback of the Year 1x RLW Player of the Year 1x Dally M Winger of the Year 1x Dally M Rookie of the Year Jarryd Hayne is now cashing in on that potential. This season he topped the try-scorers list whilst also being at the forefront of the try-assists. But it's his all-round involvement that has taken his game to another level. He was averaging around 180 metres per game in 2014. His defence has also moved him into the top echelon of fullbacks. His ability to stop a player one on one, as he showed against Sonny Bill Williams, effectively adds another line of defence to the Eels. Hayne's biggest issue over the last few seasons has been his body. Barely able to get on the field in 2012 and 2013 his side struggled. There may have been plenty of people critical of Hayne being rested following Origin but both he and Brad Arthur spoke of how Hayne had benefited. With his body under less stress he was able to maintain a high level of game across the majority of the season. Clearly the one thing missing on Hayne's list is a Premiership. The Provan Summons trophy has eluded both he and Parramatta for almost three decades. He will clearly need to carry his good form into the 2015 season if Parramatta are to make the finals but is appears now that Hayne has that maturity. He's always been in the spotlight since he debuted as an electrifying teenager in 2006. When he was once a talented but enigmatic player, he's now a seasoned professional, capable of putting in consecutive terrific performances. Will Hayne become an immortal? Only time will tell. A Premiership will help to cement his legacy, particularly at Parramatta. He definitely has time on his side to retire as the most brilliant individual the game has ever seen.

    • That's a fairly lacklustre award. For crying out loud Kevin Sinfield has won it and he's never played in the NRL.
    • You won it then boss man ?
  • Or get four premierships
  • They award it to a token Englishman every now and again so they can call it an international award.
  • Will he be aust fullback or slater? Has to be hayne.
    • Slater is out of four nations
    • They'll find a way not to give it to Hayne.

    • Both r injured and have already pulled out
  • Inglis may not even play the Four Nations. He's been carrying knee and ankle injuries this season and will probably need surgery in the off season. It's kind of annoying that the best fullback in the game is third in line for Australia in his preferred position.
    • Jarryd is only 3rd behind Slater & G.I. purely because the latter two wouldn't be near as effective either as Wingers, Centres or 5/8's as Jarryd would be.

Slot Jarryd as a Winger, he's effective whereas Slater & G.I. would do good but not as well as Jarryd plays in that position as shown in Rep Footy games for the Kangaroos or NSW Origin.

Put Jarryd as a Centre, as shown in last years World Cup, he's a far better passer and sets up his outside men compared to G.I. and also is a harder runner than Slater.

Same can be said if Jarryd would be 5/8, better passer than G.I. and breaks tackles better than Slater.

G.I. & Slater have no where near the utility value that Jarryd has, I guess when it comes to rep footy, that is Hayne's blessing & curse to be that great and he is the best of both those players.

"Which is why I asked what you consider expensive? Would you say 500k? 600k?
If these players at up to 600k are classy & not expensive, it's a pretty small window reliant on what's available?
Which brings us back to the development angle, and that…"

"For sure, as mentioned, 800k & there's no way the Eels will look at him. 600-650k, is possibly a different story. As you mentioned with salary cap, those centres might've been 600k but that was decent coin also.
100% agree though that it all depends…"
