Hayne is not really a 5/8 he is suited better to chipping in from fullback. He plays better there because he can do his thing he dosen't play to a game plan he is a wonderer. Hayne can beat a player with his footwork but cannot really draw in the players like locky can. I think he shines at fullback so just leave him there, lets face it fullback these days is like an extra 5/8 anyway.
At various stages of the season I expect to see Mateo, Tahu Burt and Hayne all play a five eighth type role, even if they don't have the 6 on their backs.
That is what excites me about this team, there are a lot of attacking focal points outside of the halves who are actually probably amongst our least creative backs (assuming the halves are Mortimer and Robson).
On the other hand it may cause a lack of consistency at times because nobody is exactly sure who is supposed to be running the ship.
It would be a MAJOR ERROR on D.A's part if he were to move hayne to 5/8 again! as it is just not a position he wants to play.
Form had nothing to do with it...It was haynes attitude which resulted in his lack of enthusiasm at 5/8...simple as that.
Hayne is our shining star of the future and to get the best out of the young fulla, the club, his teammates, and especially the coach need to get him into open spaces on the field.
No point in moving Hayne to 6 when he played so well at fullback. He is definately a running back and any creativity you get with his passing is a bonus.
Furthermore, DA needs to find some quality time with KK in the team to assess whether he has a future a Parra.
Inu at one stage looked like he could be a 6 (more so than Hayne) but he can't get his centre position cemented and his development has gone backwards for sure.
This is why DA is a genius... Moved him to six...forced him to be more involved (he has always been a somewhat lazy, lackadaisical character, although brilliant)..defended great..tried his guts out... even though his heart was not in it, he stuck it out, & did the coach's bidding. - the benefits came as soon as he switched to fullback. He had a better understanding of what the guys in the middle do & was talented enough to capitalise.......... And we all saw the benefits!!!
