Guthos worth

I read with interest the other day that Gutho, currently on 450k, is backing himself to have a big season and show his true worth before entering contract negotiations.

So, what do you guys think he's worth?

I think at 450k he's an absolute steal, given he's been asked to captain the joint, fill in everywhere in the backline and always does the job. I also think he's well below the 800k superstar level and had 2 knee reco's already. For those not in the know that makes him highly more likely to have a 3rd. I think the club has to be pretty careful how they view him going forward. No doubt he;s an integral part of our side and more often then not our best player...but I think thats also a reflection of how overpaid those around him are. Will be an interesting thing to see as the season goes on.

There's a bit of a fine line here between underrated, extreme value for money Gutho and worst value superstar contract in the game Gutho imo

  • I’m surprised Gutherson is on $450k co side ring we bought him as a reserve grade player - all be it a player with good potential. I’m sure if it was reported that in 2015 we signed Gutho for $450k there would have been a few raised eye brows. What I think he is worth now is $550k per year.
  • 2017 season he was $700k
    2018 season he was $300k
He needs to find form in the 2019.
  • It’s a double edge sword for gutho. He’s a knee reco away from being worth 150k.

  • To make him stay i would offed $750k for two years

  • Would like to see gutho giving the hooker role a crack, then maybe talk turkey
  • I think gutho confident and fit (before acl) could be worth top dollar as he was leading the dally ms and changed parra’s season but he is obviously playing cautiously which means he’s not worth that much - he needs a big season
  • 550 max hes a good player but notba match winner
  • On the form he showed in 2018 which was to be expected after coming back from his 2nd knee reco and the fact that he has had 2 knee reco's I think he is getting paid what he is worth. I think it is a wise move on the clubs behalf and also for Gutho to wait and see how he goes this season. I'm hoping he does have a blinder like his 2017 form, but for him to demand big money he is going to have to lock down the fullback spot or 5/8, if he does that he would be worth about $750k.

    • Actually, if he was willing I'd be trying to lock him down now a bit cheaper. Yes it is a gamble, but I think it's one worth taking. He has very quickly become the heart and soul of this footy club along with Nathan Brown. I reckon we could get him for 400-450 if we offered him a long term deal now.

      • I don't believe we would get him that cheap, when lesser players around him are earning as much as $800k+ per season I really doubt he would agree to that low amount. I reckon he will want $700k+, he needs to show he is worth the risk.
