Fui to join English second-div team Leigh?

This from The Mole:

I’M told English outfit Leigh have ordered a batch of FAKE WIGS in anticipation for Fuifui Moimoi’s arrival! It seems the Eels cult hero is already proving a crowd-pleaser with fans in the Old Dart … even though his move to Leigh has yet to be confirmed.

Really? Leigh Centurions play in the English second division. I'm surprised that Fui couldn't land an ESL contract. He wasn't up to NRL grade last year, but surely he could have gotten another year or two playing for an ESL team.

  • ESL is looking at becoming a more formidable force in world Rugby League, they have long seen themselves as our equals only to be embarrassed by second tier national squads at every turn.
It's not surprising that Fui Fui didn't get a gig, considering that the ESL are trying to move forwards not backwards, and we all know he was only called back this season by BA thru public outcry and the fact we needed depth fast
    • Yeah I see Corey Patterson and the 400 year old Mark Minichiello are heading over there.
Looking like they're moving forwards quickly!

  • Leigh are a ambitious club who are pushing for promotion next year they offered fui a 2 yr deal witch no other team would. Good luck to him one of my all-time favorites.
  • Leigh have also just signed Curtis Johnston from Souths/North Sydney. I believe they are an emerging club looking at promotion.
  • Leigh are coming off the back of an English Championship premiership winning season and have some fantastic players in their ranks already.

As Jimmy has eluded to, they've signed Curtis Johnston from North Sydney Bears to strengthen their back-line and it wouldn't surprise me if they do sign Fui.
They're keen to make it evidently clear that they mean business and that they want promotion come season's end. They're a quality outfit and Fui would be a good fit for their side.

  • Good luck to him, predictable since 09/10, but a real crowd favourite, pity being a favourite doesn't earn you a seat on the bus though!
  • Shouldn't be a surprise really, he did play second grade for a lot of this year
  • I say good luck to him
    • Would have preferred he signed with a super league club, selfishly so I could watch him on Fox.

Still a 2 year contract is more important

  • The ESL have restructured their comp, Fui will technically still play against the top English teams.
