SYDNEY Roosters CEO Joe Kelly has been suspended from working in rugby league for nine months for his role in the Manly Sea Eagles salary cap rort

Kelly was the CEO at the Sea Eagles when the club was found to have breached the NRL’s salary cap in relation to third-party payments.

The Manly Sea Eagles are also expected to be hit with a fine of around $700,000 for the club deliberately breaching the third party payment rules.

NRL CEO Todd Greenberg will make the punishments official at a midday press conference at NRL headquarters in Moore Park.

The Sea Eagles are expected to avoid being stripped of premiership points.

Sea Eagles chief operating officer Neil Bare is also expected to be suspended from working in rugby league.

Can somebody smarter than myself please explain why Manly are not being stripped of points ?

  • They had breeches over the past 5 years but apparently are currently cap compliant. Really...

  • And no points taken off? Come on! Something stinks here and it’s not Arnie’s Socks either

    • Watching greeberg try to explain why manly got no points deducted made me sick to my stomach. He has to go and he has to go now.

  • They would only lose points if they were over this season, they would lose any points gained while the team was over the cap. The reason parra lost 12 points was because we gained 12 points while over the cap for that season, if we had 8 points we would have lost 8, if we had 20 we would have lost 20.

    • But weren't we only over the cap because of TPA arrangements being declared illegal from prior seasons and being added to our 2016 cap total? I recall many saying we were under the cap for 2016, it was only the added stuff that put us over and meant we had to lose players.

    • The Warriors started their season on minus points when they got done .

  • they got off fairly lightly I think - and still no word of the investigation into the player managers.....

  • And player managers??????

    • Nothing to see there Mutt, you know that.

  • I thought we were actually under the cap but only over as they added previous years cap breaches .

Doesnt seem like manly have had previous years breaches added
