Foran v Hayne

Is there anybody on this site who would take Hayne over Foran? I ask that question, because I believe Foran will bring more success to Parra even though Hayne has more freakish talent in his toe than Foran does in his entire body. Is it just me or am I the only fan looking forward to Foran in 2016.

  • Only reason Hayne didn't bring us more than a year or two of success (07/09) is that he was surrounded by ordinary players. I think we're all excited for what the future holds with the team we're building. On the up.
    • But you can't build a team around a fullback. A 5/8, you can. I'm excited.
    • Hayne and it's not even close
    • Wizards Sleeve - by that same logic, Hindy and Burt also took us to two spoons and then retired. Not really very valid is it?
    • GI? Do Souths win the comp without him last year? No. Their halves were nothing special without him and the forwards. JT and Joey both had their share of bad years too with crap teams. One player doesn't make a team. Foran is no magic fix. Hayne won pretty much everything in the game in 9 years. If you think Hayne could have done more or was the reason for the spoons well..

    • Agreed. Hayne is twice the player Foran is but rugby league isn't designed for individually brilliant players to dominate. On top of that, leadership is massive in collision sports like rugby league, especially at the level of fulltime professionals. Foran will have a much bigger effect on the team than Hayne, despite being less of a player.

  • True again slip. To be fully effective, fullbacks like Hayne need to receive the ball in space - about three passes wide, or against retreating/broken defensive lines. The alternative is to come into first receiver, but then his running game is wasted and we don't have him out wide where he's needed.

A half, on the other hand, spends the whole game no more than two passes from the ruck (and usually at first receiver) so he's always as involved as he needs to be - the opposition is less able to dictate where and when he receives the ball.

  • We have a more balanced team now with foran. I still rather hayne Any day but
  • Foran just.
Given their ages and the fact Hayne would have 3 high level years left in him at best, I would take Foran over Hayne.

Without a prominent half most teams would be cannon fodder and even in '09, you'll find we just scraped into the 8 with Hayne at his champion best.

The fact that we're even comparing the two, shows haw important a signing Foz is.
  • I say Foran as he is a team player. Guess we will see next season.
