Election ballot this afternoon

UPDATE: At around 3pm today, I was informed that the election ballot was postponed pending a challenge to the accuracy of PDRL memberships. I've posted more in the comments below.

Just to give everyone a heads-up that the PDRL board election ballot is this afternoon. I have nominated and will be running on Steve Sharp's ticket so I'll be going along and I'll try and report back on who has nominated. I don't know the individual nominees, however I have heard there was 20+ nominees so based on that, it's looking like there may be 3 tickets. I don't think there will be any surprises for guessing the couple of "factions" that will be represented.

So in the interests of full-disclosure, please be aware that anything I say from this-point in, is obviously biased towards the fact that I'm running and in full support of Steve Sharp. PDRL elections don't always mean a lot but this one is going to be particularly important for a couple of reasons.

1) We need to get as much as the electioneering and politics out of the way so that the club can move forward into the 2015 season with no distractions and negative press. For the first time in a long time we finally have a bit of stability around the place across the coaches, players and administration all having been bedded in and settled. Hopefully if Sharpy gets a mandate to continue pushing the club in the direction it's going, it will give everyone a bit of confidence that the whole place isn't going to get turned up aside down again over the next six months.

2) This is probably a once-off chance to push through some of those constitutional reforms I've been banging on about for so long. If the Leagues Club and PDRLC are aligned, then we won't have the two boards continually at odds and we can have a proper crack at formulating structures and constitutionals that are made for the professional era we operate in, and not a hang-over from the amateur-days of the past.

P.S. During the election. I'm pretty much handing over any of my moderating responsibilities to mitigate conflict of interest. I'll still edit out things when people have gone too far with profanities etc, but in terms of membership bans, closing threads, etc I'll leave that up to the mods.

  • Great Stuff Phil, Sharpie is lucky to have you imo, this can only strengthen his ticket.

Steves done a fantastic job, its crucial he is kept in power, he bloody deserves it, all you members, make sure you vote for steve Sharps ticket, and make sure you vote the right blokes on like Phil Sim.

Things are finally starting to move in the right direction at the club, lets make sure it keeps on moving in the same direction.

    • C'mon Snake, why not just come clean.

You want Phil to win so he wont have time for this place and you can take over.

We can see straight through you.

  • All the best mate. Everyone knows you always have the best interests of the club at heart, something you have in common with Sharp. Good times ahead.

  • Good luck 1 Eyed, stability and calm heads need to prevail to keep our great club progressing in the right direction.

  • Are some of those usual suspects even allowed on a ticket after all their shenanigans?????
  • Heard there are 21 candidates , none named Spagnolo! Looks like at least three teams with PLC directors on different sides . The draw will be of interest .

So pleased Roy has not nominated. I heard he was not a financial member so they may have got him on a technicality.

I fully support Phil in his endeavours to get on the board. He really is the one that has pushed constitutional change and put it on the agenda for the future betterment of the club. He embraces change so that members - that's us - have a much bigger say on the future direction of our club.

Besides that he is a proud dad of a Wenty junior and if my memory serves me correct helps coach the team.  Shades of BA?

So I would love to see Phil and Steve working together in taking our great club forward.

    • Shades of BA? Hardly, but I'll take it! Next year will be my third coaching my boys who will be Under 8s next year and it is one of the reasons I'm so passionate about the PDRL in particular.

  • Nice one Embers, well said.

  • There betta not be anybody running that have direct links to Spagnolo.

    • Snake there are 3 things certain in life - death, taxes and Roy pulling the strings at election time. Watch this space!
