Keating is now in limbo after Anderson said he was still being considered for a first-grade spot but added Robson and Mortimer would get first shot at playing in the halves.

"The coach told some of us younger guys that we're in the mix," Keating said.

"He just said I'd get a chance in trials before the season and I know I have to really impress by just being consistent and improving little things.

"He's let me get back into it in my own time. It's going to be really tough but I just have to keep training hard and doing everything I can to show Daniel I'm ready.

"I haven't really played footy in six months but my ankle and jaw are fine and I'm completely fit, 100 per cent."

Mate, my thoughts on the subject are well documented and everyone knows how big an opinion I've got on him. He'd be the second player I'd be locking up after Mateo. But it's up to Kris to show what he is capable of in the trials - I think he will and he'll start the season at seven.

Hi phil ,

With all due respect , I cant place humble in kennys league , not for a few years , kenny is to me better than the king . He scored 2 tries in 4 grandfinal appearances ( 2 dis allowed in 86 ) , but kenny to this day is a legend of the game , club, state and international level .

Humble is a youngster and yes give his alot of praise i totally agree 100% , but i just wouldnt feel right placing him as the next kenny , I made the comment last year that even Hayne doesnt get put into kennys shoes yet , a great season but hayne must continue for a long time before we put him as a kenny equal , Maybe after we win 2010 - 2014 when hayne gets his doubles, i will equal them , But humble is a long long way off for just my own opinion .

Anyway phil i still love this site , i am spreading the word even over seas Greg

Phil...he has shown very good 'flare' but he has shown nothing more than great darting runs and to be available when a good run is required. Now, don't get me wrong but there is so much more to being a regular, tough, seasoned half than that. Like getting the ball to where it has to be...quickly. I still can't believe people on this site are calling for the half we had last year (Robbo) to be replaced automatically because a bloke is exciting. He is also frigid and small with a heart bigger than his body...as we saw last year. It is a long season and if it were 10 games long...I would be voting for KK as well... it isn't. DA and others have got it right. Robbo was half in the club which got within 7 points of a premiership and only lost because of half an hour of stage fright. This KK issue is tired. The main man, DA has got it right! I hope this 'KK is automatically half' concept is now dead? Go Jeff.

It continues to amaze me when the discussion re KK or Robson comes up.

Those who contend KK is a better NRL half than Robson have no grounds to support this, other than their own personal opinion.

Take 2009.

KK played 9 games in all, 5 of these were off the bench replacing his brother, the other 4 were probably at half, most games KK played in were defeats, Robson played in 18 games most which were won.

I think KK is a good player and adds some spark/speed to the team but why would a coach change a successfull combination of halves for as yet a non proven commodity, it is not as if KK has a playing record which demands his instant recall.

yet again we have denegraded another Blog topic into a Robson vs Keating slog fest.. Another one to add to the 10 existing already.

Yes it sounds like a bloke on the outer, but if you were the Wayne Bennet with Game 1 against the eels , how would you train and prepare for the game? Starting half could be Robbo or KK, maybe the halves are Mateo and Mortimer. Who would know what Anderson will come up with.

So is the choice with an arsenal of choice at his disposal. The mind games have already started in the off season with talk that Parramatta may change their style of play from last year.

But the Eels can train knowing the halves pairing of the dragons and the type of play to expect.
