Do you think the referees are on the take?

With betting on games being so prevalent amongst supporters, it is not beyond the realm of possibility that some referees may be influencing games in order to give one team an advantage over others. I am not referring to the obvious bad calls they are making; more so the ones which go unnoticed but affect the outcome of the game - a penalty, a forward pass, a missed knock-on etc....

It may be 2 or 3 referees not the whole group.

So what do you think - are some of them influencing games on purpose?

  • Anything that  involves betting there’s always a big chance.

    • I could imagine getting a quote like that from a gambling addict.

  • YES!!! But I think it runs deeper than the refs. I think the whole league is as real as WWF. Remember Greenturd said we are in the entertainment business.

  • Even if Parramatta had a dedicated eel supporting ref, we still wouldn't have made the finals
    • Appreciate your comment there el hefe, but this blog is not about Parramatta. This is about referees in general but I am sure you get the point.

    • Chief, I’m not using the refs as an excuse for our season, we are shit and that’s a fact. However, that being said the refs are incompetent, the salary cap is a joke, the rule changes have stuffed the game( 7 tackle sets from the twenty, how shit is that?), the bias in scheduling (broncos getting 7 days between games continuously). The game has gone backwards under Greenturd.

    • We have already established that they are incompetent through a many examples every weekend but the question is Brissy - do you think that some are on the take?

  • Put it this way... If you were looking to corrupt officials you would be looking to a sport where 99% of the calls were subjective and the scrutiny of such calls couldn't get the said official in trouble.

Rugby League absolutely fits the bill more so than something like cricket or NFL where ever action is stopped and looked at.

The game fixers have already got to the players. ..see Ryan Tandy etc

If the game fixers haven't corrupted the referees , which are more lucrative , then they are compete morons. Stupid they arnt.

with the amount of betting both legal and illegal there is NO way that the game is 100 %

    • Makes sense Fathead - if the game fixers haven't gotten to the refs than they are complete nit-wits.

    • ^^ This
