Corey Norman as middle playmaker

While opinions are pretty divided on Corey Norman, I wonder if he isn't perfectly suited to playing that middle playmaker role that Joseph Paulo has occupied if we continue to use that structure.

Those who are prepared to give Norman a pass-mark for his work generally refer to him as being "solid" and he has actually put a few blokes through holes with his short-ball. Arguably his running game is a little stronger than Seffa's. With the year's experience in the halves, one would hope he'd be able to organise the middle.

Norman's critics question his decision-making, his lack of creativity and his kicking game. Arguably, Ryan Matterson already has him covered on most of those qualities with more room for growth and I think he just might be a more natural five-eighth.

So I'm thinking seven Sandow, six Matterson, 13 Norman might actually play to all of those player's strengths. Putting a bit of bulk on Norman to get him up to that hundred kilo mark and I think he'd make a pretty capable playmaking lock.

  • Corey Norman as ballboy.
    • That's one expensive ballboy.

What if I phrased this discussion along the lines of Jo Paulo or Norman for 13?

Because unless you totally change our structure (which I don't think is likely while Sandow is seven) it's pretty likely that BA is going to want a 13 with half-quality passing skills.

  • Could be a good call Phil, he would have to bulk right up and get serious in defence, i certainly dont want him at 5/8, the big problem is that he is totally lost in the attacking zone 90% of the time, im not sure he has the vision or quick decision making brain to do it.

Corey is a set play style of player and 5/8, thats why it surprises me that when he has plenty of time to decide on a play he comes into that play looking totally lost for ideas apart from motioning with his hand behind his back directing support, and its not like the op cant see what he is doing, hes just lost for ideas.

Phil i think Joe is more suited to the spot atm, im not a paulo fan but he has moments of nice vision putting nice little balls up, i think he is a bit more aware than corey, i think he has better peripheral vision than corey too.

I havnt seen Matterson much, but if i was BA i would get him into the fold, keep norman on his toes and have him looking over his shoulder, maybe give him an early or preseason crack at 1st grade,

    • I reckon we'll see matto in the 9's. He'd be suited to it.
    • I think paulo would be a good link between the fong and a flied lice - fong calls golden century
Paulo delivers - best role he ever played
    • Ps come on snake we finally get phil off the paulo unicorn milk and u start screwing with his mind again...
  • Phils dropped poor Joe like a wet bar of soap, so much for the man crush, hope Phil never has a man crush on me.

  • Phil puts these positional blogs in only when he knows something.
He tipped us with the need for an experienced centre blog - later we signed Champion.

Now it looks like lucky Phil is signaling that he's all time favorite player- Sefa "crabman" Paulo may not be in the 13, stating the Norman to lock case.

Phil even talks about Paulo in past tense stating " playing that middle playmaker role that Joseph Paulo has occupied if we continue to use that structure".

Take it as fact the Sef man is gonski.
    • Christmas has come early i think 95 % of supporters would be dancing if morgan toutai and paulo were all punted by the end of the year. Come on sharpy and BA get rid of the driftwood, they are nothing more that expensive NSW CUP players who should not be in our top 25.
