Cooper Cronk. No love but much respect.

Look, I got no love for the cheating scum from 2009. Which I paid good money to go and watch in person.

But fark me if cooper wasn't the antitheses of what we have now. Busted, broken and kept doing the role, even if that role was directing traffic. Gimme 2 of him. What I saw was the vast difference between what is and what can be.

We need players. Director of footy, GM's, yayaya, it all pales into nothing compered to the heart of the players.

Im reminded of a mavel movie comment where some suited stooges were pulling the pin on the avengers and told captain 1 eye it was over. They said sentiment dowesnt win wars, to which 1 eyed jin said, no, soldiers do.

At the risk of sounding Fong'esk (heaven forbid), players win the war, not generals.

The roosters are an astute example of buying your way to victory. And at the end of the day, success breeds success. Parra's most successful period was buying most of the Dogs players in the early 90's. Imagine a club of our size with the cash we've got, forgetting about development, but hiring a Noel Cleal, picking off talent (and affording it).  I think its the way forward.

    • I think if you take Cronk out of that side in the second half, the Roosters lose. I doubt Keary would've been able to take full responsibility mid-game to marshal the side. You could see Cronk organising everything behind play and occasionally taking the ball at first receiver. That allowed Keary to ball-play and kick.

  • Nup sorry. It wasn’t courageous it was stupid! If the bunnies had if kept their composure they would have put 2 or 3 tries down cronks side - I guarantee you storm would of. Not only that but he risked doing further damage which could rule him out. There’s a fine line between stupidity and bravery and Cronk crosses it by staying out there - especially when roosters went 8 up. To me a better example of a courageous act was Graeme Smith the South African cricket captain when they toured Australia. He initially retired hurt with a broken finger but on the last day when the game was in the balance he came in at the death to try and save the match - he’ll I even started to root for them!
Btw the eels bought the dogs players in the late 90s and I think there was more than that to our god period then.
    • look, i agree with your outlook. your amazingly wrong, but hey, u deserve a go

      • Yeah ok — tell that to the roosters fans if Souths has of scored the winning try off the charge down kick that Cronk screwed because he wasn’t 100%.... morons. And what if he is out next week and roosters have no direction? Will you still be praising his “courage”.... remember Inglis in round one last year scoring a try on a busted knee that kept him out most of the season??? But hey, you posted the topic so everyone else must be wrong

  • Yep, agree Daz. Full respect for Cronk, toughed it out even when Souths tried to send some traffic his way. I hope he’s there next week to make a game of it.
  • Agree Daz.

Compare their halves to ours - on any level - the gap is mind blowing.

  • Moses and Norman: spend at least half of any game sulking about not being the chief and the other half sulking about getting something wrong.
Cronk: spent half a game with one arm and put his body in front of runners all afternoon while organizing the troops.
We all know what kind of character we would all want if there were a choice.
    Good blog idea
    • I'll have to check out the window for flying pigs, well said Daz couldn't agree more
