  • The Eels cannot afford to let BA go, that is why he is still here.

Gurr and the board are making some tuff decisions to make sure the Eels can have a long term future and dont continue doing what we have in the past, paying players or coaches to play/coach somewhere else or do nothing for the money.

I have said this in previous blogs, I hate the thought of another re-building year but what I hate even more is the thought of the Eels making really poor business/short term fix decisions that effect the club for seasons to come. If BA is on the reported 1mil next season, then I am fine with letting him see out his last year as at that price we can't afford to pay him to do nothing or pay another player to play somewhere else.

2019 may well be another season written off but if it leaves us in a really good place to move forward in a new and successful direction for the future then so be it. There is also the possibility that BA and all our players aim up as there contracts are all up, that wouldn't surprise me at all. Even if the Eels somehow managed to win the comp next year because of everyone's contracts being up, they still need to rebuild with the right new signings, retention and forward planning of our cap and not let themselves get back into the mess they are. This may still take another season or two to get right but allegedly the Eels will have 4mil cap space in 2020. Hopefully they don't just spend the money because they have it and like I said before "Forward plan our cap".

We need to take a leaf out of the Storm and Panther's hand book. Invest good money in the right players, put capable players around them and have a stream of talented juniors coming through who keep the first graders honest.

    • Agreed Mathew. It seems to always come as a surprise to the club whenever we are short of a particular player/position. We should have known about this a couple of years beforehand, and have some plans to fill the gap. That's what the successful clubs do - the wooden spooners flounder at the last minute trying to rectify the situation. If we have promising juniors in the ranks, who will be there to support them as they transition into NRL players? These things need to be planned in, but I don't see a lot of that at Parramatta.

  • BA  didn’t have any suport in 2018 , that was the fault of the bosses .  How he can be compared to coaches like Robinson or Bellamy that have a wealth of support staff at their disposal is plain dumb .

I 100% can see many flaws in his recruitment amongst other things , but again , we have no idea how much of that comes down to Gurr and Co .  Bernie hasn’t exactly left us without doubt that he has bugger all idea what he’s doing either . He’s also shown he is quite comfortable meddling with the team management side of things even though he’s been vacant from the game since most of our players had pubes . Bernie has zero idea of how this generation of players think or react .

This year is without doubt the make or break for BA , anything less than playing week 2 of the semis should and will be the end of him , however sacking him now without a top line coach to take over is dumb from both a business and performance perspective .

    • Couldn't agree more with this.. I just don't see how we can go from 4th to last with the loss of one player (Semi).

I'm no fan of BA but there are more internal issues which led us to the wooden spoon.
      • I know CP - I've spent hours thinking about it. (the 4th to last thing).

Something went seriously wrong in that team last year - absolutely no doubt about it. Whatever it was, if it's been sorted there is hope that form can return I reckon. If the problem's still there we are doomed..

    • Well said Wiz. Blokes on here want to pull the trigger and ask questions later when we are in a worse position.
