Can we beat the Broncos?

Hi everyone,

Great win win today over the Knights! You could really feel the team lift, as though they were in a better mental state compared to the last few games.

I'm just looking over next weeks games and thinking about which teams will win and if we can beat the Broncos. It's a Broncos home game, with a big crowd expected, partly due to the fact that locals will expect a Parra to get thrashed as well as the Broncs having a massive fan base. Broncos will also be wanting to bounce back after a loss to the Dragons (previously winning 5 in a row).

The Broncos are currently doing much better than us in regard to injured and suspended players. They have a few players out at the moment, but the only one worth mentioning is Darius Boyde (out for the season) who they seem to be doing fine without. According to their injury report, Adam Blair is supposed to be coming back for our game, though he has recovered early from an injury and played on Friday night.

I think everyone on here is quite aware of our injury and suspension problems. Anyway, I'll just give a little recap on player availability for the Broncos game. Our injury report says Pauli Pauli is out until round 8, though he's already playing for Wenty so should be good for the game, possibly a bench spot. Radradra is supposed to be out until round 10, but is already training well with the team and may be ready in time for the game (though I wouldn't want to rush him back). Gower may miss the game with a broken finger, though he is pretty tough and played on against the Knights today. Richie Fa’aoso could be a good big forward to play off the bench, though I don't want to lose him to concussion again as it kinds screws our bench if we lose a player. Not sure why Darcy Lussick was dropped, but I reckon we should bring him back, to help contain big Broncos players like Sam Thaiday. Tepai might be right for the game, after taking a week or two out of the top grade to recover from some shoulder issues. Taka should be playing better, with another week of recovery (from an injury a few weeks back and obviously Junio Paulo will still be suspended for a few more weeks...

I think we are certainly capable of winning, but it just comes down to the mental attitude, confidence in ability and working together as a team. I don't think the Broncos are really that great or with much of a spark. They just have a very solid team (with plenty of third party sponsorship deals, I imagine) and a quality and experienced coach in Bennett. I feel like we're still getting our act together, while the Broncos are like a 'well oiled machine' though anything can happen on the night...

This Saturday night 8pm, Suncorp Stadium. Broncos at $1.33 Eels at $3.15. Odds seem fairly stacked against, which the betting odds reflect.

What do you guys reckon? Realistically, can we win, or is this blind faith that the mighty Eels can triumph over any team? Personally, I reckon it will be a close game with Eels managing to win. I think the victory today would have restored some confidence in the team and belief in their ability. We also seem to have a good thing going on with Robinson at FB, Folau on the wing and having pushed Ryan Morgan out of the team. I think Faraimo played fairly well today, though I imagine he would be dropped and things arranged if Radradra were to return early.

  • Cant be fekked reading your life story, but the short and simple answer to the title is a resounding NO.

    • Haha... I'll admit I did let my mind wander a little while writing my thoughts on the upcoming game. Yeah, It'll be a tough game to win

    • No surprises from you then, TD. As usual, thanks for your balanced and in depth analysis.
    • Haha nice one Sleevo. Why does the muppet even come on this site?
    • Someone said TD was on bail for throwing bottles... But hear he is trying to sound like he knows what he talking about. Lol
    • Pritty sad you spend a fair bit of time On this eels forum, considering you are not even an eels fan? What do you do with your life? seems like such a waste of time, do you not have better things to do. Not trying to be an asshole, just concerned really.

    • Well then why can you be 'fekked' coming onto our forum so regularly??

  • Good blog Kram, yes we can beat them and most of the time we trouble the broncs.

BUT theres no doubt we are in a bit of a slump, we won a scrappy affair today looking disjointed, lets hope we can do it next week, we'll have to lift our game to be a chance, i think we can do that.

  • Good Blog mate, well put together.   I think we can win even though the Broncos have improved their defence this year.  I think Corey will have a big one. TAKA will improve from this week and up against HODGES they will dance well together cancelling each other out. Our forwards can match them . The key will be playing Brisbane UP TEMPO and 2nd phase to break their defence line. If we try the get into the grind game with them we wont win.

  • Great blog GP (2).

I can't wait to attend this game, first time for me to Suncorp and ANZAC Day etc.

Our match last year up there we beat them simply by out enthusing them. Our line speed in defense was exceptional all match.

If we show up with the same attitude we will win.

    Can't wait.
