Buhrer weighing up his options

While Manly are expected to announce the re-signing of outside backs Jorge Taufua and Peta Hiku to multi-year deals they could be dealt a double blow with regular Glenn Stewart fill-in Jamie Buhrer also weighing up his options.

The one-time NSW representative has indicated he wants to remain at the club, but the Sea Eagles are struggling to rejig their salary cap despite Stewart’s departure.

The Cronulla Sharks and Parramatta Eels are possible destinations for Buhrer.

  • Buhrer as a replacement for Paulo?

    • Do we have anyone in our system that plays this kind of role?

I know we have a host of tight and wide forwards coming through, but do we have any second-rowers who can both pass and run?

  • If Matterson put on another 5-8kgs he could become a second-rower who can both pass and run. Sef Ualesi is another one who you could consider to play a similar role to what you are thinking. But imo our next best emerging second-rower that hasn't played first grade is Tepai Moeroa.

    • Matterson could replace Sandow in the halves.

It would strengthen the defensive line having effectively 2 backrowers defending next to each other instead of a half and a backrower.

We have plenty of backrowers coming through with Santi, Ualesi and Moeroa, Tanginoa etc who can step in

  • They both can go we dont need them

  • We have an outstanding hooker and he's to small to player in the back row. Why pay overs for someone we cant use. Go after a damaging prop or a decent halfback

  • Paulo is probably a little more talented with ball in hand that Buhrer, but Buhrer is tougher and safer, im not sure we can carry paulos mistake rate any longer.

    • Which part Frankie? His hands?
  • Buhrer has been great all year. You can't continue saying that it is because of the rest of the team around him that he plays good when he does individually brilliant things.

He has 2 MOM awards in 7 matches and is highly involved.

Although I'm not out to bag Paulo, out of the 2 mentioned - Buhrer easy.

  • No Yobz, he was born with crab feet.
