Bill Harrigan needs to come out of retirement!

Week in week out all we read online and in Monday's paper is about the turning points in games and continuously it's the guy in the middle and his blind Freddy touch judges that "turned the game".When Bill Harrigan was the top ref we had a few other referees vying for those big games! In particular one of those refs was Tim Mander, who learnt a lot from Bill and went on to be a pretty good ref. Bill looks pretty fit and with the aide of another ref on the field, I can only see it as a positive on helping all up and coming refs by actually being out there when the heat is on and a decision needs to be made!Am I irrational in my chain of thoughts?

  • bill harrigan needs to get hit by a cement truck......

  • Your either a fan of bill harrigan or a fan of parra. You can not be both.
  • I am a lifelong fan of Parra but I am a fan of footy. In his prime Bill Harrigan made mistakes, was extremely arrogant but he was pretty damn good. With Bill out there mentoring in the games and refereeing it could only be positive for these guys that are scared to make a decision because of a lack of self belief they have in their judgements.
    • TWOSHOTS, is that your porn name ??

    • Haha! It's a golf related nick name . Otherwise it would be Piwi
  • The qualities that made Harrigan a top whistleblower - ie assertive and back yourself - make him a terrible refs boss ie nothing is wrong and I cant accept feedback or criticism

On his watch the 2nd ref came into play which imo was an acknowledgement that wrestling / grappling overtook the game and a specific official was needed to police the ruck.  I heard Mick Cronin on the ABC a couple of months ago and he said for almost 100 years a player got tackled, the defender got up straight away and the attacker played the ball.  Now both officials scream out dominant, surrender etc etc etc.

Time for Bill to go I'm afraid.  His track record as the boss is average

  • lol crow, we could get you a role as THREESHOTS CROW, are you in?

  • Bernard Suttor has to be the worst referee in the game with Ben Cummins a close second. They're both incredibly disrespectful to players and cannot read the game at all. They both think they're the best in the game and in reality they'd be lucky to pass their referees test if they had to go again.

  • with matt chechin not far behing

  • Okies, time for me to climb back under my rock and concede, I'm irrational ... :)

"I don't think that's a fair comment. With exceptions to Jennings and Fergo a lot of the players mentioned were developed under Arthur. Moses, Gutho, Papali, RCG, Cartwright, Lane, Hopgood, Niukore  are all better products having played under Arthur.…"
