Announcement: Shane Shackleton out for season

Official statement from the club:

Pirtek Parramatta Eels forward Shane Shackleton has been ruled out for the rest of the season as a result of a hamstring injury sustained against the St George Illawarra Dragons in the Eels’ Round 1 match on Friday night.

The hard-working forward has a severe injury involving the hamstring group of muscles at the back of his right leg.

Shackleton had emergency surgery on the day following his injury to repair the damage, and will remain in hospital for a period as the leg needs to be immobilized following the surgery.

It is unlikely the 27-year-old will be returning to the field this season. Shackleton joined the Parramatta Eels from the Sydney Roosters late last year and was one of the best trainers throughout the Eels’ pre-season.

A replacement will be named tomorrow when coach Daniel Anderson announces his team for the Eels’ second-round blockbuster against the Manly Sea Eagles at Parramatta Stadium on Sunday.

This really sucks. Considering the hard off-season that shacks put in for us, it just aint fair that he's gotta sit out the whole season. It's either very demoralizing, or motivating to put in even more next season.

  He was the best forward for Wenty last year, I hope he will take this Opportunity with both hands and prove his doubters wrong.

Feck.

Iv'e always been a fan of Shack and I think he was on the verge of a breakthrough season. I feel really sorry for him after putting in big time over the off season and then to be ruled out for the season after 1 game must be shattering.

This further weakens our already thin forward stocks. In all honesty I'd be thinking of getting O'Hanlon some game time in Wenty. If we lose 1 or 2 more forwards through injury during the season (almost inevitable) it may prove a worthy gamble.

He is big enough and skilled enough just get him used to tackling men and if he excells it would give him enough confidence to handle the big time.
