Announcement: Shane Shackleton out for season

Official statement from the club:

Pirtek Parramatta Eels forward Shane Shackleton has been ruled out for the rest of the season as a result of a hamstring injury sustained against the St George Illawarra Dragons in the Eels’ Round 1 match on Friday night.

The hard-working forward has a severe injury involving the hamstring group of muscles at the back of his right leg.

Shackleton had emergency surgery on the day following his injury to repair the damage, and will remain in hospital for a period as the leg needs to be immobilized following the surgery.

It is unlikely the 27-year-old will be returning to the field this season. Shackleton joined the Parramatta Eels from the Sydney Roosters late last year and was one of the best trainers throughout the Eels’ pre-season.

A replacement will be named tomorrow when coach Daniel Anderson announces his team for the Eels’ second-round blockbuster against the Manly Sea Eagles at Parramatta Stadium on Sunday.

hey guys i was wandering
maybe pele can fit the hole created by shacks???

I like that idea, I'd be putting Cayless or Fui Fui into the back row and bringing in a big unit - Pele is certainly that.

Feel sorry for The Love Shack. He played well with his time on Friday. Wish there was enough room in the cap to re-sign Chad Robinson. He is back home and would love to see him back in the Blue and Gold.

If oake is our next best replacement for Shacks.....we could be in for a very long season......

once again money for nothing

My question is how this affects our salary cap. Are his earnings considered even though he may only play half a game all season? Does he get paid his full money for half a game?

My apologies if this seems heartless. I really feel for the poor guy and I hate to see him out and injured. I'm just thinking about the logistics (with the rest as an assumed given).

considering when you are injured at work and have to go on workers comp, your annual pay is capped at 80 percent then after 6 mnths you drop again to 60 percent. i feel for the guy but if it frees up some money considering he couldnt fulfil his part of a contractual agreement ohh well.

does this allow parra to sign a replacement or promote someone else to senior squad?

We get about $50,000 back towards our salary cap now that it is confirmed that he will miss the whole season. I seriously doubt that we can pick up a quality back rower/ front rower for that money. We may have to bring up a kid or try and move what we have about. We are skinny there no doubt about it. Ben SMITH is injury prone as is Cayless...... a worry.

The irony too is that we sold off most of our other backrowers - Lowrie, Gaulvao, Latimore, Paulo, Haruku – to pay for Shakelton. LOL!!!!!

Time to blood a new boy. It happens every week in the NRL. Its now our time to do so. Lets call up Horo or Pele or O'Hanlon... 1 of them 3.
